House of Balsa PT-19 build
Well, I haven't been taking pictures all along, but now that I'm ready to cover, I thought I'd take a few "bones" pics and share them with you guys.
This build has gone pretty well. I'm happy with the quality of the kit ... very good wood, great laser cutting. The plans leave out a little bit of detail, and the instruction booklet is detailed, but not terribly thorough. But with my experience, I had no serious problems, just a bit of brain-fade here and there.
Power is Fox .25 BB. I think it'll be pretty hot.

Nice job! I love HOB kits, as you mentioned, nice wood, a bit out of the ordinary and they fly very well. I've built the 20 size T-6 and have the 20 size Mustang tucked away. Show us a photo when she's covered.
Cheers!

An older flyer at the S.A.M. site in Sacramento has one he built, powered with a 40 4str, it looks & flies great. It`s one of those planes that you admire & ask questions about. He had nothing but good to say about the kit & the way it handles in the air & on the ground. Wouldn`t mind having one myself.

Covering is done, aircraft is assembled. All I need now is to make a couple of pilots and build and install the rollbar.

HEY THATS MY PLANE!!
I have one to. Where did you get it? I had heard that they didn't make it any more.
The .25 is a perfect match to the plane. It will fly it very scale if you trim it right.

Yup, they still make it. I had to order it through my LHS, but I am very pleased with the kit. As I mentioned before, the wood was all top quality, laser cutting was great. Only thing I would ask for is a little more detail on the plans, but it was not a problem.
My additions to the kit include the dressed up LG struts, a balsa block stuck under the center leading edge of the wing to fair into the fuselage, and cutting the fuselage numbers out of white Ultracote instead of using the black decals supplied in the kit. All the prototype photos I found had either yellow or white numbers, and I ran out of yellow Ultracote.
Which brings up a word of caution if anybody builds this one: go easy on the yellow covering. I thought I'd have plenty, but one roll just barely covered the wing and tail surfaces, even with me using white for the rudder. There is plenty of blue left over, though.
Really enjoyed building this one ... if it flys as good as it looks, I'll go for a HOB kit anytime.

Where did you get the pilots? I have 2 HOB kits and want this one, but I'm having trouble finding pilots the proper size.

Made 'em myself. See:

I didn't take as much care with these guys ... although I used photos of Dave for the model, I didn't really try to make them look like him. And don't look too closely, they're a little off ... I'm not a sculptor ... but from a distance, they're not bad. I painted them with acrylics, but since these guys are out in the wind (and exhaust) I varnished them with epoxy to fuel proof them. So they're a little shiny, also.
Good luck,
Phil

RE: House of Balsa PT-19 build
I made the maiden flights yesterday. She flies great, very gentle, but capable of simple aerobatics. I like it
Ground handling, on the other hand, stinks [:'(] On our grass field, it's very difficult to keep her from nosing over--usually very gently, I flew three times with the same wood prop w/o damage--but what a pain. I made a couple of my nicest landings, ever. Smooth, almost three-point, rolled out holding up elevator to keep the tail down, and as she came to a stop, woops, tail came up, prop hit the grass, and there she sits in the middle of the field. I'll try bending the main gear forward a bit and hope that helps.
