Anybody make a kit of the Space Shuttle?
Just wondering if anyone has seen a kit of the plane off the space shuttle. That would make an interesting kit and conversation piece at an airfield. I like different looking planes such as triplanes and really anything that stands out.

Have seen a few. There has to be plans for one somewhere. Have you looked at RCM plans?
I just found out, the original set of drawings I have for the real one, given to me by the designer so I could make him a set of blue prints were just put in a museum in Florida. He allowed me to keep a set, but I can't copy them for anyone. If you ever get to the Walk of Fame Museum in Titusville, look for them. It is the only original drawings of the shuttle you will ever see. It had originally been designed with turbin engines that come out of the fuse and slide on rails to lock in place. The pilots actually reqested they be taken off because they didn't want the extra weight and it was then turned into a glider for landing. Those drawings show the jet engines. They hang in my shop over my building board. Quite cool!

Hello !!!!
RCM have the plans of a Space Shuttle, a friend of mine build one, it have the engine in the back (pusher), but have some problems flying it, basically the plane took of easily, but after a few seconds he lost control of the airplane, that happens 3 times, he is now planning to put the engine in the front, let me see if I can get a picture of the airplane

If you lived closer I would give you one built from the RCM plans, it is almost done and has been mostly covered. I have no desire to ship it (not worth the effort).

RE: Anybody make a kit of the Space Shuttle?
Several years ago I was at an airshow where they had a glider space shuttle. It rode on the back of a high wing, and was launched off the back (like they did in the '70s with the real one). The airshow was in Scranton, PA. Don't know if that helps.

It is a crowd pleaser to say the least ! It lfys like a heavy brick probably but rolls very nicely to the flight line.
