Does anyone have the plans for a Global "Raven" ? I need to know where the plans show the CG. I can't seem to get it right!

If no one comes through for you, try balancing it on the forward edge of the main spar if it has one. If it's a foam wing, make it slightly nose heavy balanced at a point 1/4 way back on the wing. I'm thinking the Raven has a double taper? If not you are going to need to calculate the average point of 25% of the wing chord.

After you get the plane flying pretty good, move the CG back a small amount at a time to the point where it tends to get jumpy and hard to control on landing. Then move the CG forward just a little. As the plane begins to get tail heavy, it will become harder to recover from a spin.

Remember, Nose heavy planes don't fly well.

But, Tail heavy planes fly only once if at all.

Enjoy,

Jim

Thanks Jim, yes it's a double taper wing. I started out balancing it on the spar,,, that was a thrill a minute! I've been moving it forward in small increments. Now I'll move it forward enough that I know it's nose heavy and slowly move it back, it's too exciting the other way around.

I'd still like to know what the plans call for,,,, anybody ???

I was flying my Raven 60 yesterday. 6th flight still working on getting comfortable with it. There are a few good threads on the throws and balance of the Raven in this forum. I'll check and get back to you on the recomended balance point (I do have the plans).

Global says main spar at root. if you search forums "Global Raven"
dated 02/24/2004 you'll find some very good information including a
picture of globals cg recomendations In one of threads RCU Member tivey has 4 1/2" to 4 1/4" this is what I used. Also take note of the throws
the elevator has to much and this will cause a snaproll very quickly.
This is why there are only 7 flights on my plane because I crashed it on its first flight about 7 years ago and just decided to rebuild it. (after sitting in my attic and almost throwing it out.) The plane is fine second time arround though.

The plans show the CG immediately under the main lower spar at the fuselage.
