How many projects do you have going?

I was wondering if I'm the only one here who has several projects going at the same time.
I have found that while I'm doing the initial frame-up and getting the plane to start looking for something, I tend to keep working on it but then set them aside for later and work on something else.
At the moment I have the following in my workshop:
CG Ultimate - Fully built except engine install and covering. Need to change the aileron servo setup to a dual servo
MK Curare 60 - Engine installed (Rossi 61 plus pipe). Fully built. Not covered
TF Cessna 182 - Mostly built. About to install the engine. Started glassing control surfaces
84" Miss Texas - Scratch built from Cunningham plans. Fully framed and sheeted
Waiting to be built:
TF DC3 - Have ordered the TF retracts.
MK Aurora 60 - Have a YS61 RE and a pipe for it
GP Cub 40 - Bought the engine (Magnum 52FS)
Lazy Ace - Laser Cut short kit
I'm sure I have left something out. I'm sure this is enough to last me a while. Is this hobby crazy or what??

You are not alone on this.
I have the CG Ultimate fully built but not covered. Its small for my taste, I built this one so that I could scratch build one that is larger, 62 inch wing, I fly the larger one and love it.
Scratch built Christen Eagle same size as the GP Christen Eagle, fully built and covered just wating for some CF landing gear.
Nick Z STuka, built needs to be covered and painted, I hate to paint so this is a slow project.
1/3 scale Cap 232 in the building stage. This is a scratch projct. This one will fly soon because its the current project, its coming along very well and I work on it a few hours each week.

I long ago came to the realization that I'm a parallel thinker/worker. [8D]
I installed several workbenches in my new workshop to accomodate this.
Current projects in various stages of completion:
- 30% scratch build Staggerwing
- 1/6 Waco umf
- 1/6 J3
- 1/6 SE5
- Combat models F15
- ...

I too have multiple projects going on...
[ul][*] EF Yak 54 with DA-50 and tuned pipe[*] Hanger 9 Super Cub[*] Cermark Pitts S2B[*] Electric powered combat planes[*] Great Planes Greak Lakes(?) bipe... A friend gave me this nearly RTF and I'll fly it soon...[*] plus other older projects that in which I no longer have any interest...

Well, if assembling an ARF counts, then three. If not, then two.
Tower Hobbies Kaos 40 - ST G51 ringed
Morris Hobbies Penknife - MVVS .26 GFS w/tuned silencer
Hobbico Twinstar - 2X Saito .30's
Need to get these done so I can start on my Venture.

I used to try not to start one project until I finished the one at task, but often cannot bring myself to do that. Some times I just get tired of one project and have to "step away" from it for a while and concentrate on another plane. Right now I have a PT-19 thats almost done, an Ultimate kit (wings done), and (another) Cap that I just finished and am ready to maiden. Just ordered an ARF, which should be here this week too!
You know, if I didn't have to work, I could get so much more done!!!

Wow I must be a rare type. I try pretty hard to make sure I don't have too many different projects going at one. I find that if I try to divide my attention between too many things then they all suffer. The most I have had going at one was 4. This was 2 planes, 1 helicopter and 1 boat. That was enough for me. I guess also I'm a little impatient. I dont really want a half finished planing hanging around for ages.

Jim, where did you get the Staggerwing plans from ?
Jim, where did you get the Staggerwing plans from ?
Off my drawing board.[8D]
I'm drawing my own, based on detail drawings from the manufacturer.
I started mocking up the fuselage to work out some sticky interference issues with the retracts but I'm stalled right now, as allways happens when flying weather arrives.[8D]

Are there any kits available ?

I know Ziroli was working on plans, not sure if they are available yet, RCM has plans for a small one (.40 size?).
Hope this helps.

Jim,
True modeling then ! I first saw a Staggerwing at Reno i think it was and it must have been back in the early eighties. Beautiful aircraft !
Thanks ! You have set me off again, so much for moving on to a jet aicraft.

I've got a few ging also. It's easier to sneak one by the better 1/2 when the build room has lots of projects.
1-LT-40 framed up. Cut wing in half to take out all diehedral. Dormant build.
2- Midwest squint scale 40 zero. Dormant build.
3- Great Planes Extra 300 .60 size. Active build.
4- Pica P-51 1/12 size. Active build.
5- Built Sig Senior awating radio/engine transplant.
6- Built Ace Simple 400 awaiting engine transplant.
7- 5 sets 1/2a plans. Hope to start one later this year.
I love this obsession! Mike

I must be the odd man out. I really strive to work on one build at a time. I might slip in a minor repair, but really try not to start another build until the current one is finished. Now buying the 'next' project is another story completely. I'm currently finishing up the covering on a Top Flite Contender, but here's the list of kits patiently waiting their turn (in no particular order):
Balsa USA Enforcer
Bridi Dirty Birdy
Bridi Killer Chaos
Direct Connection F-20 Tigershark
Great Planes Super Sportster 120
Great Planes Patriot
Great Planes Tracer
House of Balsa P-51 Mustang
Hobby Hangar (Uravitch) OV-10 Bronco
Juno RC (Direct Connection) Tsunami
Morris Hobby Spinsation
Pica Duellist
Royal Beechcraft Staggerwing
Sig Wonder
Thunder Tiger Raptor 50 V2
Top Flite Hot Kanary
The Raptor heli will be next!
Did I mention the half dozen or so plan sets I also picked up? Got a smoking deal on a Delta scroll saw that I'm itching to try out!
I just need to find a few more hours in a day.

If you have the room, I think it is a good idea to have at least two projects!
I have nothing major right now (and NO time to start something!), but the side project I have is a Uravich Fokker D-VII that I tinker with when I get burned out on other things. I am sure it will never be done, and I will probably never fly it. I don't care. It would leave me in a quardry for another "side" project if I ever DID finish it!

By January of this year, I had on the workbench:
1) Cor-Star twin
2) Byrom's CAP-21
3) GP Skybolt
I was so proud of myself, as I had just the Skybolt to finish up...until yesterday, that is. A club member asked me to finish a half built Pete n Poke in exchange for a mostly built 40 size stick. Now I'm back up to three on the bench. Not to mention my 'nothing left to build' standby, the half built TF Cessna 182, my scale project. No rush on this one.
EDIT: Almost forgot the 1/3 scale Extra I was asked to cover for a club member...that makes 4...

One more (a MAJOR repair job) as of about 4 hrs ago!! Got caught in a crosswind while taking off. A small stand of trees blocked the crosswind as I was taking off. Got past the trees and into the crosswind at about 5 ft altitude. TOAST!

Framing a Midwest Super Stinker
Framing a Lanier Ultimate Pitts
99% done framing a Midwest Giles 202
Scratching a Cessna Skymaster 337 from an LT-40 fuse and an Ace Bingo wing--extanded to 84"
Sheeting the wings on a Lanier Stinger 10
Framing a Lanier Shrike 10
Just got a Twinstar ARF in the mail today. Haven't cracked the box yet.
Covering a Carden 30% Cap 232--what a job--my best yet.
Building an LT-40 for a friend--almost covered
Assembling a Pheonix Sukhoi Barf for a friend
Assembling a Chief 3D Giles 40 for a friend
Building a PBY from a set of plans I bought off ebay
Yes--all at the same time. I glue a bit here and cover over there. Then cut some plywood and sand a few ribs. Set up the jig and then sheet something. Back to glueing something over there, then cut some more plywood--sand some ribs---repeat repeat repeat.
I have 6 hollow core doors that I build on. When I get one door full of balsa and all it's got a bunch of framing on it--I shove it up in the rafters or set it in a corner and grab another door.
I've got covering irons and chargers running all the time. When I get out in the shop--I'm pretty much a nut. Stay outta the way and don't talk to me. Pass me that Crown&Coke--okay now shut up--I'm working.
I drink a lot of Crown and Coke and smoke a bunch of cigs. This modeling is killing me.
I seam to work faster when I just do a little bit on each thing and then move on. I plan ahead for my next move while I'm doing one task. I guess I'm a major--anal retentive--multitasker.
I usually start working around 4:20

This is starting out as a baaaaad year. Got 5 in for repair since january. Byron Sukoi is totaled (rec failure), and the other 4 were dumb thumbs. Including the big Bandito Grande gasser I shreaded thru the power lines. DOH!! So I have a TF giant P-47 build in process, a cmpro Spitfire arf a couple of days from being done. For repairs I have a BT 75" corsair, Bandito Grande, a trainer I loan to students, and a GP 40 sized Decathalon. Waiting on the shelf is a 96" 4 engine ugly stick, Super Duellist (2/60), and DC-3 from MAN plans. I just cant turn off my mind. Every time I see a plane I start dream building.
