SIG Ugly Stick - need info
Hello All,
I have a "ugly stick" style plane that I bought years ago from a guy. I've been out of the sport for a while now and I'm just getting back in. I decided to revive this plane. It had a god awful covering job and I decided to strip it down and re-cover it. I stripped the plane last night and saw "SIG" stamped on one of the wings ribs. I was happy to see this because I didn't know what manufacture this plane was from. What I would like to have now is some more info on the kit. I'm not sure what SIG called the plane ("Ugly Stick", "Big Stick", "Super Stick"etc). So I need that and I would also like to get a instruction manual and plans. I don't if I can just call SIG and ask or not.
It has 67" wingspan (from tip of TE to tip of TE). I plan on putting a K&B 61 engine in it and converting it from a tri-gear to a tail dragger.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael

I am not familier wit ha Sig stick. Could the rib have been a replacement for the origional? I don't know, but if you were to post a pic of the plane, I or someone else could identify it.
Sig could have made a stick, but I don't know.

Thanks woops,
I'll take a couple when I get home. Already stripped the covering so it will be just a frame. I'm wondering about the whole SIG thing myself. I couldn't find any info about a SIG stick anywhere online.

My guess is that since you didn't find anythig online, Sig didn't make it. I can't wait to see the pics, but be forewarned, half the post will say it's an ugly stik, some will say it's an ultra stick, etc.

TTBOMK, SIG has never done an Ugly Stik. Perhaps the only company on the face of the Earth that hasn't....The SIG printed brand suggests that it was scratch built from SIG balsa.

kdheath is probably correct. Sig balsa had their name stamped on it for a long time until they started putting stickers instead with bar codes. The plane was either repaired or scratch built.
SIG never produced an Ugly Stik, but the plans for the Ugly Stik have been available since 1966.
