Default Four*60 engine options

I have started on my Four * 60 winter project and wanted to get some ideas of engine options. I know a lot of you have this airplane and would appreciate it if you could share what you used and how the choice worked out. Thanks in advance for the input

Hi Tom,

I use an OS91 Surpass II turning an APC 15X6 and love it. Needed no weight at all and will climb vertical until I tell it to stop

I had a 4* 60 with a .91 four stroke. Good combo. Now my brother has it and is running a .61 2 stroke. It does ok but I liked the 4 stroke better.

I am flying my 4 * 60 at 4300 ft elevation with a TT 91 4 stroke. I am using a 14X6 Master Airscrew Prop. This set up is great, balances perfect. Also I have used a YS 91 AC on this plane. I believe that I liked the TT better seemed to pull vertically better. Could be management of the prop. I was using a 15x8 prop on the YS. Also I had to move the battery behind the servos to get proper CG.

I have heard of guys using a Saito 100 4 Stroke. Weight is the same as a Saito or OS .91 4 stroke
with a bit extra umph. So that is what I am going to use. My first 4 stroke and I've heard this plane
just isnt the same with a 2 stroke.

That's also a very good match. We have one guy at our field that flies this combo and loves it. He uses a three blade prop so I'm not sure of the pitch/diameter but the plane hauls bootie

I have owned two 4*60s and flown several others and here is my assessment.

2-stroke .61, full wing: Sort of pokey, not much vertical, slow on rolls. Flies like a big, low winged trainer.

2-stroke .61, clipped wing (1 rib each side): Still pokey, but faster on rolls.

4-stroke .91, full wing: Good hi-performance sport plane, good vertical.

4-stroke .91, clipped wing: Better due to faster rolls.

2-stroke .91: Most power, excellent vertical, best with a clipped wing.

My 2 were kit bashed into a "sort of" Kawasaki Tony with clipped wings, rounded tips, scale tail and gear mounted in the wing. One had an OS .91FX with an Ultra Thrust muffler. The other had a Magnum .91XLS with an Ultra Thrust muffler. Both used 14-6 APC props and both turned 12,000 rpm. I could not ask for a better sport/acro plane.

If you are interested in the Ultra Thrust, call Performance Specialties. They make two for a .91 2-stroke, a short one for running .61 size props faster, 12-6 at 14,000+, and a long one for the 14-6. They really like to rev up the OS .91.

Bubbagates - I would be interested in what three-blade prop is being used on the Saito 100 if possible.
