Default BUSA SE-5a

Am in study phase for another month or so, making Decisions, etc. I've no gas experience for more airborne flight than string trimmer or lawnmower. Kit rec's gas 25 to 35 cc or fourstroke 120 to 150. I have older OS 120 FS (pre Surpass) and a ST 2500, Astro 120 twostrokes, (latter two ran fine on bench. Interested in engine input as well as "if-I-had-it-to-do-over" advice. I elected to go with BUSA after deciding Dynaflite wasn't what I wanted. Proctor someday maybe, after winning lottery. LOL, Let me hear fromya.

G-38 or get something smaller. Or at least one heck of a chunk of lead.

Going to gas to save using lead seems an awfully high price to pay considering costs of those stumpullers versus melting free wheelweights. I do like sound of fourstroke better than two though and there the prices tend to even out somewhat. If i need fixin, start with screwdriver LOL

I only paid $312 for my G-38 and B&B motor mount, out the door, tax included. Much less than the cost of a 4-stroke, not to mention $ saved in fuel.

FWIW, spoke with Tech Support at BUSA and they were positive to combo of SE-5A and Fuji 32-B as to fit and power. Only encouragements from people who fly and know their kits at BUSA. Will let y'all know developments. Smooth skies and good friends to ya.

I recently emailed back and forth with Dave Lewis at BUSA and discussed engine selections for their SE-5A 1/4 scale kit. He told me that the kit was test flown with a Zenoah G38 and that flew just fine. I asked in particular about the internal dimensions of the cowl in relation to a couple of engines. After that, I decided to go with the new OS 33 gasser. The fit and finish should be fine with just a little bit more weight up front. For me it was a toss up of either a DLE 35 or the OS. I chose the OS and we'll see how it works out.

Cheers,

Four Stroke

The Fuji 32 is actually a 34cc and if not abused before you got it, should run very well and be more than enough for this plane. The nomenclature was corrected in later versions. Like most magneto engines, they can be a little finicky to hand start until you learn the routine and proper prop placement. If you can handle the additional nose weight, get a spring starter kit from B&B Specialties and starting will be almost automatic. The other thing is to make sure you mount to a FLAT firewall. Don't use washers for thrust adjustments. If need to use thin ply sanded to a wedge shape. Even though the mounts are just sheet metal some weird stresses were causing the crankcases to crack. The cases were supposedly fixed in the 32B and definitely the 34 but its difficult not knowing your engines history.
