Hi,
I have found someone with a Sig Kobra kit for sale! now i have done a search, and some say a 28-30 size engine is plenty, yet some have got 40-46 engines in it!
I have an Enya 40SS needing a home, so will that engine be too much for it? I also have a Tunder tiger GP25, but i don't think it will give the kobra much performance!
Let me know ur thoughts.
Cheers

The Thunder Tiger GP25 will be eneymic at best. Buy the looks of the plane I would go with and engine near the top or above the recommended. The Enya will do that, but that engine model is a little heavy especially for the weight as it has a cast iron piston. If you were to go with a 25 I would use something hot. I have seen guys with tuned pipes or mouse-cans for Norvel or Jet 25's. The Thunder Tiger Pro 36 or a light weight 40 like an LA would also be good. JM2C

Mine is very quick with a TT .36 on a Macs Mini Pipe and 9-7 three blade prop.
If you overpower it I'd recommend removing the last 2-3 inches of each aileron, and sealing the gaps. The have been known to have flutter on the aileron ends. I have had three, and the ones I did this on have never fluttered. Aside from the delta wing jobs this is about the fastest thing at my field. AND I can taxi back.
P.S. Mine is converted to a tail dragger to save weight.

I'm flying one with a Webra Speed .35. This engine is light and a real screamer. With a mousse can pipe, 5% fuel and an APC 9X7 prop, I have been radar clocked at 103 mph. AND, it is just simply a sweet flying plane. I never had any flutter problems, but be sure the elevator pushrod has no flex in it. At one time mine had a bit of flex in the pushrod and in a high speed dive it would take a LOT of pull on the stick to recover; not a good feeling. If you want speed, just remember keep it light! I have also flown them with a BB .25, which is fine for Sunday flying, but no real perfromance, as well as an FX 40 (too heavy) and an LA 40, which I thought was a pretty good choice, but just not the screamer that a good light wieght .32 to .35 will give you. This plane will do touch and gos all day, and when you take off and pull straight up out of sight, it's a pretty awesome feeling! The Enya SS will be OK, but as pointed out, a bit heavy.

Weight with muffler: 524g (18.5oz)
Displacement: .46 cu in (7.5cc)
Power Output: 1.45 BHP at 16,000 RPM
RPM Range: 2,500-16,000

I had a Kobra with a TT 46 and a tuned pipe. APC 9x8. Balancing was a problem. I built a hatch behing the wing trailing edge for the tail feather servos (2 x 225's) and a 600 nicad pack them. With the full length pipe, it balanced without lead. I also had flutter in the strip ailerons. I fully D-tubed the wing during construction. However, it was fun little rocketship. I would sit out on the runway, jam the throttle to full and be doing victory rolls towards the horizon within seconds. Acceleration was amazing. A 40-sized motor works well, but it will be nose heavy. Plan accordingly.

Concerning the ST .45, it is a great engine, but heavy for a plane the size of the Kobra. The Webra .35 has about the same hp rating (for whatever that's worth) as the ST, but weighs in at about 6 oz lighter. And 6 oz. on a 3.5 lb plane is a LOT of weight. The ST .45 will work fine, but you may find yourslef adding tail weight. Extra weight will affect vertical performance, increase stall speed, make landings more difficult, scrub off top end speed and increase the tendency to tip stall leading to the spiralling snap roll of death. You'll have a rocket, but overall flight performance will suffer with every added ounce. As with ANY plane, it's all about weight. If you want a .40 or .46 engine go with the LA engines to save weight.
