OK, I'm looking for a short list of smaller manufacturers of airplane kits; ie not GP, TF

It might help if you told us what kind of AC that you were looking for.
However; Have a look at Adrian Page - "Page Aviation" he is out in Nova Scotia, Canada - as a one man show for design building and sales etc - you don't get any smaller, and the quality is superb!
