Deffinately need a flight report on this one. A G38 ought to haul this thing around pretty quickly. I am currently working on one with a few small mods. Typical clip one wing bay, 1.25 inch extended elevators and rudder and 1 inch top cap/counter balanced rudder. about a .25 inch extention to the ailerons. I too am working on relocating the elevator servos to the rear and using two. I plan on using an Evolution 26cc for power.

Well, the beast came to life today. I got one flight on her. The g38 runs great on the ground, but not so good in the air. So I have to wait for my gas guru to come out and help diagnose the problem. Anyway up and down in one piece. It seemed to fly good. More info after I get the engine running better.

My OS 1.08 has been flying mine just fine for 8 yrs and over 300 flights. I've even used it for a glider tug and had more than enough power. Did I mention our field is at 8700' elevation?

The XYZ is a low end engine as far as $$$$ are concerned. There is never tooo much power. By the way, I still had to add weight to the nose.

I flew my first one with a YS 120 and a 16x6-10 prop and it was great. My new one has a DLE 30 on it. Even better!!!
Maybe you could tell us what you are thinking of using. I like your tag line too.

I ordered a dls-20 but am thinking i may have made a mistake. Its supposed to have more hp than most 120 4stroke engines so Lord willing it'll do the job.

Here is a pic of the changes I made. !st I reinforced the wing with some sheet balsa. It keeps the wing from twisting in flight. I also added counter balances to the tail feathers.

Oh yeah, make sure to reinforce behind the wing on the fuse. It WILL break in to at that point! Ask me how I know.

I'll have to search for better pictures, but in the wing I cut some 1/8" balsa to fit diagonallly in the wing in front of the spar. That adds a lot of strength. The wing will not flex! I have heard of people over speeding the wing and it would twist. Not mine now. I also had some wood behind the wing at the fuse former that is located there. Just adds a little strength. I had the fuse on mine break in half there. I tried to put it back together, but it developed a twist, so I started with a new fuse. On my counter balances I used the thats about right theory.

I had to share. I really enjoyed reading this thread, thanks to all that contributed. I build this one as per plans/instuctions with no mods except adding to rudder 1+1/2" at bottom. I was surprised when it weighed in at only 10 pounds. No lead added, battery under fuel tank tray, balanced at midpoint of range (4+1/8") from L.E. Waiting for snow to melt for maiden.

Ive pretty much got the wing done except for sanding & servo mounts & aileron stuff. I made the landing gear mounts & the f1 engine mounts then shut the lights out for the night. Ill try to post a pic. It wont be very good & itll look lopsided but its just sttin there.
The wing isnt warped, i put sheeting where it didnt belong.

Ive got everything pretty much done, i have went with the dle30, ive made a few mistakes but thank the Lord they were fixable. Im going with fabric covering. Cub yellow & white & maybee checkering. Ive re-enforced the landing gear mount, criss crossing in the wing, tri stock here & there, rounded wing tips, extended tail (not done yet but will do), i might not sheet my vertical or horizontal stabs, really no need. Plus it might help me not have to add weight in the nose. I am going to use flying wires & the ohio superstar products tailwheel kit. And im using the single prop kit for the dle30. Im only going to put a windshield on it, not the whole canopy. Im going to put all the switches in the cockpit with the pilot if i have room for him.

Crashland, did you leave the firewall in it's stock location to mount the DLE 30? I know a HS that has a 120 kit, been thinking about picking it up, ESP so. E there will be no more from Sig
