I'm considering a BalsaNova 40 as a weekend sport plane that can do a extra thing or two. I would like feedback concerning the kit itself, performance & any modifications you experts would suggest. Thanks for the help.

If you are wanting a more 3D type plane, then make the ailerons, rudder and elevator bigger. The plane flies real well without those extras but if I build another one that's what I am going to do. I am still moving my CG back and it just keeps getting better. I have an OS 46 FX on it now, but I may put my YS 63 on it for better performance and responce. It is a real nice all-round plane. Great for the weekend flights or fun fly event and even does well for practice beginner pattern. Very smooth. It will slow down to a walk before it will land and most people just fly right past the runway and go around a few times before they get it right. This is a pic of my 40 Balsa Nova. Have fun....

It's a great flying plane. It's my second favorite plane to fly. My favorite is my Balsa Nova 120. Flight characteristicwise it's between a pattern plane and a fun fly. Anything from a strong 30 on up will fly it great. Knife edge loops will require a strong 40 or better and hovering with plenty power to spare will require a strong 50 or better. Mine is one of the original where the fuselage is continuous to the spinner. It's hard to fit anything in there that is physically bigger than a Webra 50 without chopping so much of the front away it gets ugly. The newer ones with the fiber glass cowls will probably accept a bigger engine easier.
Strenghten the landing gear other wise it'll break out on the first hard landing.
