How many building a Hog Bipe
#1
Thread Starter

Since I got my Hog I've been noticing so many people building them and started to wonder just how many Hog bipes will be taking to the sky this spring. Post your poll and a pic if you have one, I'll be first and post a pic tonight when I do some more covering.

I didn't build this but a friend of mine did. He did an awesome job. It is absolutely my favorite airplane that I own and I own quite a few. I just love bipes and am in the process of building a GP ultimate.

The peer persure finally got to me and I just started one today. Here is a quick picture of what I managed to get done before the football games came on. The second picture is of my beloved 10 year old Astro Hog, which has been in retirement for one year. The last picture is of all my other airplane toys: an original Hots, a gaint scale decathalon and a 4*40.

I'm building one too! I've got most of the frameup done. I have built it stock except I moved the landing gear forward 1/2" and I'm using dual aeliron servos. I'm also going with a fiberglass cowl from Stan's. I'm going to put a Saito 100 Twin on it for power. Color scheme will be the same pattern as on the box but with Metallic Red and Metallic Gold Monocote. Underside of the wings will be a Black/white checkerboard.

well we have been doing some covering and have the wings almost done, Going with the stock sceme and they are looking pretty good, Been taking our time with the covering so it is taking longer than we hoped but spring is still a ways off. Mine is red and his is blue.

Built mine 8 years ago, still flying it! Does great spins, snaps and it loves big lazy aerobatics. It's still a blast to fly even after all that time.
Cheers!

Just maidened my HOG after work today,it,s got a ST-61 in it.
Did a couple of laps around the runway, tracked beautifly, nosed er into the wind, hit the throttle, tail came up and in the air it went,2 clicks of up elevator was all it needed,it was beautiful, flew awesome, landing however was a little tricky though, ihad the throttle set too high therefore,it wouldnt slow down enough,so i had to land it hot, takes a lot of runway when its paved, perfect 2 point landing till iran out of pavement, anyways just nosed it over in the dirt and broke the prop, all i can say about the HOG is
IT,S FRIGGIN AWESOME!!!!

I'm ready to start on mine right after mt Corsair is finished.... Will be primarily a float plane & plan to use a saito 100; possibly a twin after reading the other posts (that was an expensive idea... thanks a lot!!) Gumhead, you're in here too??? I ran across your Cap 232 build thread & got some good ideas (including Barbie the pilot. Thanks!) Obviously you have excellent taste in kits!
The Hog will get koverall finished with latex and automotive clear, slightly flattened. I think it will look great with an old-school finish and the extra weight certainly won't hurt this one.

I got the wings ready so far, but for months now I have not found any free time to start ojn the fuse. I don't even get to finish this crappy ARF thing I had to buy when I crashed my last flyable plane. Yeah, I finally managed to destroy my undestructible Telemster. [sm=cry_smile.gif] All I can say is that from the hobby point of view this year really s*cks.

I just made my maiden flight on my Hog Bipe a couple of nights ago. This is my second Hog and I used the same engine (Rossi 60) that was on my first one. I am not happy with the performance but I'm going to try a different prop. I have a 11x7 on it now and it is very doggy. Anyway I'll try posting a couple of pics.

Those pics look great, My Hog is now my every week plane and last time out we had the two Hogs (A friend and I built them together last winter) and a Super skybolt flying in formation. What a sight to see having 3 bipes side by side stagered on the altitude flying over the field with 3 Saito 100's roaring at the same time and I forgot to bring my camera too. I'm addicted to bipes now, I just picked up a old Pica YMF-3 at a auction about the same size as the Hog so I have two bipes to fly now hehe, I still love my Hog more though.

Hey Pope:
I flew a friends hog on floats today (monowing, not the bipe) OS 91 4-stroke, 14x7 prop, and and 36" floats (not sure what brand). Flew great! It made me feel 100% confident of my plans to put my hog bipe on goldberg 36" floats with a saito 100. Can't wait!
