Default GP Pete´n Poke 40

Hello folks,

I have a plan of a GP Pete´n Poke that I want to build. In the plan there are some sheets of ALBASIA. I do not know what this is, I assume it is a mistake in the plan and is actually balsa but if anyone could confirm that it would be great.

Best regards,
RED

Where on the plan are you seeing this? I've looked at my plans, and it all seems to be balsa and ply. I built it a few years ago, and I don't remember any exotic materials.

Hello Phlip,

It is on the die-cut patterns found in the manual. I scaled that page and I want to cut the kit from there.

BTW, how does the kit fly? is it worth building it? i want to do it for winter flying. looks very nice and some skis would go great on it.

That's just a typo. They are referring to balsa.

Gotta be a typo.

Actually, I see that in my plan book, now. Those parts are all die-cut plywood. I've no idea where the word albasia comes from, perhaps they can answer that on the Great Planes direct support forum.

I love mine, although I've crashed it and rebuilt it twice (worth rebuilding, for sure). It flies differently. There's another thread where the discussion goes into wing incidence and C/G placement ... have a look for it, it's pretty interesting. Later, if I get a chance, I'll post the link.

Opps, if I gave the wrong advice I am sorry for that. I haven't built the Pete-n-poke, but I did build a Slowpoke. I just assumed that they meant balsa (hmmm, I guess what they say about assuming is true huh?? ).

On the same subject, I just recently noticed that the Pete-n-poke and the Slowpoke have the same fuselage. I'm pondering over bashing the two kits together and coming up with a Slowpoke Biplane. Could be interesting!!!

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

Check out this thread for a wide variety of opinions of this plane:

[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_1020388/anchors_1020388/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#1020388]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_1020388/anchors_1020388/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#1020388[/link]

The Pete was my second plane, so I didn't have much of a frame of reference on judging it's flight characteristics. But now, I can say that it doesn't fly like a trainer ... it's much less stable, much more capable of aerobatics. But on the other hand, it's not like a low wing "goes where you point it" kind of aerobat. It takes some coordination in the turns. Depending on the power available (so it seems) you have to plan ahead for your manouvers. I like it, but some don't.

Good luck,

Phil

I don't know about the Pete, but I LOVE my Slowpoke. I initially got it when I bought out somebody that was getting out of the hobby, but I was planning on selling it and not building it. I asked others about it here on RCU, and then flew it on RealFlight, so I decided to build it. Man, it's one of my favorites now. I have an OS 52 4-stroke on it. I can get about 25 minutes flying time with it. And I can fly it so slow that you'd swear it was going to fall out of the sky. I can take off and circle the field at 1/3 throttle, and can even manage a loop out of it. I finished mine last February and for last year I had a total of 89 flights which worked out to 35.38 hours of flying time.

Here's a couple of pictures of mine.

Albasia is a type of wood, it is light and durable. its like a pine, furr, spruce, or sitka spruce. almost all light weight and durrable wood is baised off of sitka spruce. so there is no typo in the plans. happy building and good flights!

You will like the "Pete 'n Poke". Just make sure you strengthen the wing supports with tooth picks or similar. There is another thread on this subject.

The link posted by Phlip mentions strengthening the struts (wing supports) in posts 36, 37, 46 and 64.
