Does anyone have a recommendation for what size engine (gas) would be a good choice for the the 89" Dynaflight Decathlon. Would a Brison 2.4 be enough for moderate aerobatics? Or would a large 4- cycle like a Saito 2.20 be better? Thanks

I am just starting the covering process. Using the Zenoah G38, as several others have in the build thread. I haven't flown yet, so not sure how it will go, but you can get a lot of info from others in the thread.

One of the guys in our club has one and he has a 25 gas on it. I flys well with that motor, cant go ulimited vertical but it flys pretty scale.

I have one with a Brison 2.4...more than adequate power to do anything you want that the model is capable of doing. Great engine..

According to posts in the other thread, you can't use a prop any larger than 18" diam. because of short landing gear. So, consider that when deciding on engine.

Skip, I've just finished one of these and built it with a GCBM R/C 25cc gasser to save some cash on the glow fuel prices. The recommended prop for this engne is the Top-Flite 18x6-10. There's plenty of ground clearance and is ideal for this engine and airframe. I used a "Pitts" style muffler and the entire engine is completely enclosed except for a cut-out to choke the carb.

While the 25cc is at the bottom of the sizes listed by Dynaflite, it seems to perform just like the full size plane. The Decathlon was never intended to do 3D (who'd want to with it anyway) but can easily do the Sportsman Catagory with style.

Flying my Super Decathlon with a RCS 140 swinging a 16-8 Zinger prop. Power is adequate for scale flying. Plane weighs 16 lbs dry.

If the bryson 2.4 or the 25cc listed above flies it, then I'm guessing a Quadra 43cc (2.6 ci) would be ok as well?

(Please excuse me for any ignorance, just new to gas and finding all my options where this motor can be used)

I am flying mine with a Saito 200Ti twin which has power between a Saito 150 and 180. Its a good match for scale (not unlimited) flying. A Saito 120 might be enough to fly the plane but it certainly wouldn't be any fun- not recommended.

Hi all. I'm starting construction after christmas. I have a Evolution 35 GT for mine with a wrap around pitts muffler. Should fit nice within the cowl and supply lots of power.

Yes. Unless you prop it like a G38 and don't mind hauling the extra weight. It would not be an efficient use of that great engine.

It really doesn't weigh much more than the 38 and you could use a 3 blade on it. A nice 3 blade carbo fiber prop would look great. Ulimited verticle would be great. I just have a brand new one sitting here waiting for a Decathlon or a Citabria Pro.

Hi, just finished building, will maiden pretty soon. Power is a Zenoah g23. I am turning a 16X8 Master Airscrew 8300 and 1700 on the ground. My setting is rich 1/4 turn on top end. Should be OK

I just bought a Dynaflight Decathlon for my 15 year old son this week. In fact, it should be on it's way from Tower Hobbies. I plan on putting in a Moki 2.10 with a Sonic-Tronic Super Smoke system. It will be his first aerobatic plane so I wanted to make it with all of the bells and whistles. We worked out a unique color scheme that will impress the pit area. Monokote pearl white base with pearl blue wings and trim.

I just finished and test flew mine.

I'm using a G-38 with an APC 18-8. It flies nicely with this combo. Not unlimited vertical but plenty of power. I'm a pretty light builder and had to add 1/2lb of lead to the TAIL to balance this heavy motor. I think a G-62 would be too much and may not fit in the cowling.
