I have long been admiring the beautiful lines of the Skybolt. I now have decided to build one from a kit. My question is concerning the differences, both up side and down side of Great Planes vs. Sig Skybolt kits. For those of you who have experience with them, which is the more honest build and then which is the more honest flyer. I know Minn has an old Sig Skybolt that has really been through the mill but he still loves it. Says something about the Sig kit. I just wondered how the Great Planes kit compares. Any ideas welcomed. Thanks, guys.

The Sig is a bit smaller, and without doubt the more complex of the two to build. Although, from what I've read about building the GP, if you want a building project either one will keep you occupied for a while...

I have flown two GP SkyBolts; I actually prefer the Ultimate. One of the two was definitely overweight, and a handful. The other one was quite decent and very pretty in the air; enough so to convince me that I wanted one.

I've got a NIB Sig SkyBolt kit, with a newly-purchased extra set of plans, laying idle. PM me if you're interested. My interests have changed.

Max, FYI, my Skybolt is a GP, not a Sig.

I bought the GP kit and love it! I'm a week away from maiden flight. Several of us are building the GP Skybolt over in the beginners section.

Beginners and Skybolts??? I hope that you are beginning builders and not beginning flyers. The Skybolt is NOT a good second or even third airplane. It (IMHO) is a double handful to fly. It needs speed to land. If you cut power too early, mine had a MOSLER glide ratio. MOSLER being a Safe (as in a bank safe) Of course, that sort of thing keeps the old adrenal gland working well. Just my opinion.

But I at least had the loving part of it right.

Thank you for the concern but we are beginner builders not beginner flyers. This is my fourth plane and I've spent about 6 months practicing on the same airframe in Realflight.

Then you should enjoy it. The Sig was the real bear....kind of like flying a cinder block, but GAWD was it fun.
