Morris Profile Hots Kit

Maybe this should be in the profile section but I figure it's a kit so I'll post it here. I should have gotten some pictures a lot earlier in the build but better late than never. Has anyone had any experience building or flying this kit? Any recomendations? so far, it's been an easy build other than where I've had to work on it. As you can see, my working conditions aren't exactly great at the moment; I'm in temporary quarters until we get into our new house next week. Then I'll finally have a nice workspace again.

Build it per the instructions.
Use 3-D type control throws.
Don't underpower it.
This plane has a very low speed envelope. When it finally does stop flying, you have nothing left. That's the only caution I can think of. It's a great plane and you'll enjoy it a lot.

It's coming along nice. All that's left is covering of the wing & ailerons , mounting the engine & radio equipment, fuel tank and landing gear. I'm moving over the next few days though so progress may get put on hold temporarily. From the looks of the picture, it may be time for a new digital camera too.

me and my dad both had one of these and we hated them. they didnt float very well and would not take off well. You would go full blast down the runway with full up elevator and it wouldnt take off, then it would just shoot straight up lol not fun. We bought them for fun flies but didnt like them. Good luck with it

I have several profiles, including a Morris Knife. They fly well with the HP required with that type of plane. Flaparons make all the diffrence. My knife has an MVVS 45 and jumps to verticle once it breaks the grass......
Bet your planes were underpowered as the Hots and Knife are very similar.

The fuse is built out of some laser cut parts and balsa stick. Then it's sheeted with thing ply in the front and 1/16 balsa in the rear. I'll get back to work on this soon.

I have one of the old Mid-West kits out in the shop. I too am moving so when I get to the new place and have A shop again I will be building it real quick. I think it's the 60 to 90 size kit so I will be using A YS-110 just for fun. Fender, I built two bipes, one for my nephew and one for me. Mine used an OS 46 his used an OS 40. Mine flies great, his won't leave the ground?? Sounds like A power problem??

I had an old Mid West Hots II about 15 years ago I bought from a friend already bult with a YS and a tuned pipe (whew! sure would wear your ***** out at full throttle). I had another one stashed away in my build que and put it together about a year ago while working in Korea. Put an OS 46 on it, no pipe and it's a hand full a full throttle, but lots of fun. It has a tendecy to roll to the right, I think (haven't flown it in over a year, moved back to the states then off to Iraq). Don't know why it wants to roll to the right. The wings were built on a jig and are straight as an arrow. If I remember correctly, I did use an incidence meter and found no problems. Engine thrust is at zero degrees. Any suggustions?
OK stop laughing at the covering you guys. It's going to get changed when I return from Iraq. It seemed like a good idea at the time until I got it in the air.

It's finally done. Got everything dialed in and fired up the Super Tigre .51 this afternoon. It's not the best job I've ever done... the covering is simple and some stuff isn't as clean as it could be but it will hopefully be fun anyhow.

Well, I couldn't wait for the weekend. I took the profile Hots out yesterday evening before the sun went down and got it into the air. I was supprised at how well it handled on the ground. The take off roll was short, it almost jumped into the air. It needed a little aileron trim but that was it. I didn't get too wild but the roll rate was very fast and overall handling was great. Landing was also very easy. It floated right in for a soft smooth touch down almost right in front of me. I think I will keep this one.
