where to get hard balsa?

Interesting! Most of the wood you can get today is hard - and heavy - unless your willing to have it selected. I've good a good selection of balsa that is much too hard for my taste. Lone Star Balsa will select it but you pay extra. And, they don't weigh it, just feel it to make the selection.

I believe BUSA sells 4-6 pound wood specifically. Otherwise, you take what they send you. For particular density requirements, your local hobby shop, Michael's, Hobby Lobby, and others might have what you want. Learn to recognize different grains (weights) by sight and feel. You can also take a small scale with you to weigh the wood. Harder wood is heavier.

I have been getting mine from Lone Star and Balsa USA. If you have deep pockets and only need A little most LHS carry Mid West and I have found A lot of it to be very hard. Like Stick said, old kits are A really good source. I have A couple of old SIG kits that have balsa that is hard to cut with A hobby saw!!! You never said how much you need but I try to keep A good supply so I place A an order from Lone Star and stock pile it.
