I was thinking of bulding this one this winter, I have any os46 fx to put in it . I have a GP ultimate and love it . How is this one to build and fly.

It's NOT a 3D plane.

It is a nice sport plane.

You've got 2 wings to build and cover. Pay special attention to the TOP and BOTTOM of each wing. There are subtle differences in the wings. The kabane mounting tabs are on the bottom of the top wing and they are on the top of the bottom wing. [sm=tongue_smile.gif] The ribs are cap stripped on both sides, so lots of cap strips to install.

The tail is just sticks. Pin them down and drop some thin CA on them. There is a hardpoint in each elevator and one in the bottom of the rudder.

The fuselage is pretty easy. Balsa is pre-shaped and you just glue a couple lite ply doublers to it. It's been a long time, but I think there was a couple basswood rails that had to be glued in for the motor mount.

I used a standard servo for the rudder and mounted it in the tail. I also used dual elevator servos and mounted them in the tail. The elevator servos were Hitec HS-81. I put a Hitec HS-81 on each aileron as well. Plans call for a single aileron servo and linkages to work the top wing.

I had an OS61Fx on mine and it wouldn't hover. I was turning a 13-4W with the 61FX on 10% fuel and it would just slide back real slow. I'm in Colorado though. You might have better luck at lower elevation.

Is it going to be fun with a 46FX? I wouldn't do it. I don't know how well your engines run at lower elevation, but I just can't see a 46 doing more than dragging it off the runway and flying it around like a trainer. It wasn't that hard to put the 61FX in there.

If you want a 3D plane, you'd have to increase the size of all the control surfaces and slap a big motor on it. Look at the Tower .75 engine for $100. That would haul it around with plenty of authority. But, it's wasted weight and money of you don't modify the tail surfaces.

Thanks for the info, I'm not much of a 3D flyer anyway I just want a plane for my 46 and the profile looked perfect, anybody out there fly it with a 46

Ya know--it would probably fly fine with a .46 engine.

I just have no experience running glow engines at lower altitude. I'm not sure where your at. I've never flown below 5000' elevation and glow engines need to be upgraded about 20% or 25% in power if you want decent power.

Worse thing--your not happy with the 46. You can always dremel out the mounting rails a bit and then mount a little wider engine in the plane. There's probably a 50 or maybe a 60 size engine with almost the same footprint as your 46FX.

The Sig Fazor is a lot of fun to fly. It would be very well powered with the 46FX. It's easy to build. Same basic building principal. Balsa fuse with a lite ply doubler and stick built tail surfaces. It's a little cheaper to buy the kit too.

If you want a REALLY nice profile biplane--look at Ohio Models Boxxer bipe. It's more of a 3D plane, but you don't have to dial in all the throws.

I have been flying this plane for about 3 years now and have just crashed it for the final time. It flies ok and is a lot of fun but as noted earlier it isn't a 3D plane. It will do most of the manouvers but it likes more speed and that is why I liked it. Mine was nose heavy with the 46FX but not bad. It like most biplanes would like a 4stroker engine to overcome the extra drag. Take a look at Ohio Model Planes at the Boxer biplane it is a 3D plane and about the same size.

If you want a 3D biplane, get an OMP Boxxer. Vastly better at everything than the Sig Ultimate and not bad with the 46. It won't be a hovering monster with that motor, but it will be much lighter and more fun to fly everything else with.

I built this plane about a year ago,Iput a Evolution 46 in it , it has plenty of power,i can hover at about 3/4 throttle,awsome knifedge and anything else you want
It,s what it says on the box,it,s a Ultimate so a little power on landing is recomended,and it,s a fun fly,witch is just that, it,s a blast to fly!
It impresses everyone that see,s it fly.
I don,t know why,but everybody likes the biplanes.
Plus the solid profile fuse gives it duribility,iv'e crashed mine a couple of times{doin things my thumbs arnt up to yet}
Anyways havin fun is what its all about so,dont be scared,the LHS always
has another plane to try,thats the way i think about it !speaking of witch i gotta head there right now,

I've had a one for 4 years and when that one crashed I built a new one and now have had that one for another four years and counting. Yes its true its NOT a 3D flyer it will hover with a 46FX and the 46 I have on mine is almost 9 years old and it hovers at a little more than 3/4 throttle. It is rather difficult to hover this plane though. Its also been clocked at 70mph ground speed with a small head wind.

It's a fun plane. I have a GMS 47 in mine and will hover and pull out of the hover just fine (I am at sea level). It will snap roll on rudder alone. I only have about 10 flights on mine so far, but the more I fly it, the better I like it. I'm flying it with a 12 X 4 APC prop. I say go for it! The best compliment I can give it is that another member of our club went out and bought the kit after seeing mine fly.
