Default sig something extra balance

I am building a sig something extra. It will have duel servos in the wing and an os 46 ax on it with an acorn nut as the spinner.

I'm wondering how this plane will balance out? Nose heavy? Tail heavy? or just about right?

Any idea what size tank I should use? 8 or 10 oz.

thanks

as most mine came in really tail heavy.
the 8oz will work fine.
go easy on the glue on the turtle deck and the tail section, and you might save some tail weight.
it's a(was) fun plane to fly, on high rates(all it's got) its kind of violent in its moves and at lows is a ***** cat.
But who need low rates any way? do a search on it in the building threads and you'll find som good info. i know i did. and i will be repairing mine. it's in my gallery

Mine was tail heavy; I ended up having to add a little lead to the nose even with the battery as far forward as it could go.

With 16 cells and a Phasor 45/3 up front mine came out dead on.

Mine was nose heavy with an Evolution .46NT. Had to slide the batteries way back down the fuselage.

With a Saito .72 and built up cowl on the front, sheeted turtle deck, sullivan tail wheel and the battery under the fuel tank, mine balanced just about right. I thought about adding a little nose weight to balance conservatively, but it seems to handle pretty decently as-is.

krossk,

What prop do you have on the .72. I have one that needs a plane and I've thought about it. Not sure if my tank is high enough with the Evo. My .72 liked an APC 13x6 the best and that's a lot for the SE.

I've only got one flight on mine, but the APC 13x6 feels right at home on the .72. I doubt I'll get any more time on it this year as it seems like our decent flying weather has gone by the wayside.

Like someone said go light on the glue in the tail or it will be tail heavy. I built two and one was tail heavy and one was right on. If it does come out tail heavy just add more motor and have fun. The Tower 75 will wake this little plane up and it will fly good nose heavy as well. The last one I had crashed due to wing antirotation pin coming loose due to not enough glue so don't go too light on the glue, Haw.

Krossk,

How is your ground clearance? I have a 12.25 prop on mine now and I can't let the fuselage be level on the ground or the prop with hit. I would definately want a 13x6 on my .72.

I replaced the stock gear with the DuBro gear and have more than enough clearance for the 13x6.

Hey guys, silly question ... did you balance it right side up, or upside down?

I did mine right-side-up, suspended from the rear of the fuse and the prop shaft.

I ordered landing gear from TNT for mine. It provided a lot more prop clearance and doesn't bend near as easy as the stock gear. I think it's a good investemtn for the SEE.

Krossk,

Thanks. I'll look into that one. I raised mine 1/4" on a block of balsa and I still don't have enough clearance...but I learned to live with it so far.

Cool. Thanks Krossk!
