I just wanted to tell y'all that to I seen more kits in one place than I have ever seen

I went to my LHS to pick up a few things and got talking to the owner about kits. to make a long story short he ask me to meet him after the shop closed, he wanted to show me some of his kits.
well we went to his house.......And O' my this man had over 3000+ kits. I did not want to leave because I was in heaven!!!
I ask him how he got so many kits and he told me that his father started to collect kits when his father was a kid and now he has been collecting kits sence he was a kid also.

Ps he offered my one of the kits made by ROYAL for $100 but I don't remember what the kit (plane) was named.
I did not take him up on it but he told me that if I change my mind to let him know.

3000 (Three Thousand)? Is that a typo??? WOW! Even at 300 (Three Hundred) that would be impressive...

30 isn't exactly a small burden if you actually plan to build them.

I remember a comic I read when I was a kid. A person who liked to play games was forced to live in his home and couldn't leave until he won them all.

Yes that is correct 3000+ not 300 or even 30 but 3000

he had told me that him and his late father had been collecting kits sence both of them were kids ....the son is now in his late 40s

Seems like a waste. Does this guy build or just pile stuff up?

Gotta be a pretty fair sized fortune there. Would like to keep track of this guy.

It would take alot of "DROOLING" to put out the fire those kits would fuel. I would alert the local fire marshal.

All of them R/C or were some FF, C/L etc.?

from what I have seen of them all his kits were R/C but I did not get a chance to look at all of them (Not enogh time to go thru his whole storage house ).

Yes he does build kits and flies them and he is an avid kit collector just like his father was.

Okay, being the analytical type (some say anal!) that I am, I started doing the math. Let's say that a typical garage (at least where I live) is 24'x24' with a 10 foot high ceiling. this garage has a volume of 5760 cubic ft. Now let’s estimate that the average kit box is 36" long 9" wide and 6" tall. Each kit therefore has a volume of 1.125 cubic feet. Okay, now you said he had 3000+. Let’s just assume it is 3000 kits even. The volume of kits alone totals 3,375 cubic feet!! The garage would be packed floor to ceiling with very little extra room to move around. A family room that is 20'x20' with 8' high ceilings is only 3200 cubic feet. All of those kits stacked floor to ceiling would not fit! So, this guy either has a massive garage/Pole barn to store these or that number 3000 is a wee bit exaggerated. I'm having a tough time on this one.

Well like I had said it is a storage house not garage or barn.

it is a 4 bed room house on his land that he uses to store his stuff in ....now let me mind you this guy has 3 houses

<g> I remember a post awhile back about rc gear for sale (~$12000). When a picture was shown, it was a warehouse filled with shelves all kinds of stuff. This wasnt no standard garage, but a packrats domain. Would like to think they are at least on shelves cause those kits on the bottom probably crushed by now.

I would guess that a large number of those kits are smaller rubber powered models so the boxes will be much smaller than your estimate. If he has some large scale kits as well then I would use a number about 60 to 75% of the volume you used in your colculations.

Somebody did this to me once and prevented me from getting an award I was well deserving of. The award stated that I spent over 1,500 hours of my personal time developing software. Somebody did the math and said there was no way I could have done that.

The fact is I spent over 3,000 hours working on and told the person asking that I did less because I knew nobody would believe that number. It was over an 8 year time span - not the 3 years the person doing the math had suggested. Unfortunately, I didn't learn about all this until it was too late to provide any insight into what I had done.
