I am building a 1/7 scale spitfire.. It is already glassed, panel lined and rivet detail but I want to add some fake access panels. What do you use to create the various access plates and hatches? I tried friscos paper but it wrinkles when the paint hits it. Thanks for any help you can give..

At Home Depot or Lowes they have Foil Tape. The p/n on what I have is #322. It will be with the the air conditioning ducts an stuff.
Cut out the size and shape of your hatch, peel off the backing and press on, paint over.

Second the foil tape. I havent done it but I know some that have. Will be doing it on some of my next projects for access to switches, air, and charge.

I have some of the foil tape used to cover planes with but I was thinking that it was too thick for 1/7scale.. what do you think?

Dont know if I'd use it to cover a whole plane with at 1/7. I know of someone that covered about 80% of a 1/5 TF P-51. I think it started with foil made for covering airplanes but ran out and used that stuff in a pinch. Looked pretty good.

The foil tape should be fine at 1/7th scale. By the time it is painted the thickness will appear less. You can also use steel wool and remove some paint from the leading edges of the panel to show the aluminum, it makes for a great weathered appearance.

lol.. no I did not cover this one with the flight metal, have some left over from the AT6 Texan I completed this summer. I will try some and test paint to see if I like it. Thanks for the info. I never thought of using that product.
