The Monokote will only shrink a little but not much. The ultracote is wonderful at shrinking and stays stuck as well too, and is much easire to iron down. I have use some Monokote recently becaue I order form Tower, but I think I am switching bacck to Ultracote as it is much better.

The Monocote I have will shrink a lot more then the Ultracote I have, until a hole apprears I use both Monocote and Ultracote and they both have there good points... I still prefer Monocote... They have IMHO the best/prettyiest selection of colors... It sticks down better (at least has), shrinks more etc... I have covered with Ultracote and have it on a few ARF's I have purchased... It applys easier (curves etc) but does not shrink like Monocote.. I have never been able to get the seams to stay down on the ARFS or my onw cover jobs... Ultracote does not have the color selection Monocote has... All depends on what your current project requires I guess..

I have tried several different rolls of different colors recently and have come to the conclusion that monokote quality has degressed to the point that I will no longer use it. as I [ who has had good results in the past with it] am in to a new kit and do not want to take the chance that the covering job will turn to s@#$. I have serveral rolls as well as quite a bit of partials and scrapes left on hand. maybe I can use it on some of the older stuff for repairs.

I give up too.

Monocote seems to have changed from the dependable product it once was. I too thought I had lost my touch as I have been a customer for 20 years...no more but I just wasted a hard earned $45 .... not to mention the time to get the unshrinkable film it off my butt-ugly stab, elevator and rudder.

It's a shame such a brand name has turned to junk, I used to love everything about Monocote.

I cannot figure out who to write to complain, Top Flight, Great Planes, Hobbico, who's responsible for the Monocote line now?

Dan,

Contact Bill Baxter (userid - Bax) from post #23 in this thread and he can direct you to the appropriate contact.

The change happened some years back and the problems have been posted countless times. I'm not going to stop A covering job and send the product back to Mr. Baxter for replacement and worry about the hit and miss of the product. It was just too easy to switch to the Ultra and never look back.
If it was just me and only happened once then I would figure I was doing something wrong?? If it happens to every one you know and all the folks that have posted here then maybe it could be the product has A problem and needs fixing?
I do wish that the Ultra had more colors to choose from but I have managed to do some outstanding covering jobs with what they have and I would hate to see them over extend and start having the problems that the Mono has.
