I am seriously considering buying this kit but am curious to know these answers.
Does anyone know if you can build this kit with rear servos near the control surfaces (external servos)? Has anyone built it this way with any success.
Does anyone know where I can get a free downloadable manual for this kit so I can study it before my purchase?
I would like to put the servos in the rear instead of inside as mentioned above. I am also considering putting my first 4-stroke engine in the front. What do you recommend?

Yep pretty simple really> Just install the servos in the last lighting hole in fuse and your done.

Tiger - if you don't put the 4 stroke in front, where would you put it?

BTW - SIG doesn't put their manuals online. Somebody may have copied them and [ut them there but I don't know who. Not sure it would even be legal.

THIS IS NO SOON-TO-BE KIT, It's only an airplane I like very much. And it will be at least a few months before I attempt it
(actually it will be my advanced build quite-a-ways down the road, and will do later after flying . . . YES I WILL BE FLYING, AS HARD AS THAT IS TO BELIEVE [sm=71_71.gif]

What size 4 stroke were you thinking of for this SSE? I've heard of .70's in them, and I could see putting the servos in the tail if you go that size. I have a ST .45 in mine with a FG cowl and it balanced fine with the servos in stock position.

Not trying to be argumentative here, but I'm wondering what are your reasons for putting servos back there? There are some reports of Saito .72 and .82 engines on the SSE. I've thought about that myself. Ground clearance with a larger prop would be an issue with the stock gear.

Just for a change of pace. Every plane I have built has the traditional servo placement, and I want a change. Seeing as though I can't find that style airplane in kit form that is designed to have them in the rear I want a plane that can accept them there.
I know the Uproar 60 is designed that way, but I don't want the wings permanently attached to the fuselage as I believe that kit's are.
If anyone can find or know of any low-wing preferably airplane KIT (not ARF) that does NOT have a foam wing that is designed to have the external servos in the rear please let me know and where I can get one from!!
Thank you.

Check out Overtheedge's thread on "lets bash another something extra." Myself and OTE are both building these kits and have done some pretty extensive modifications to them. Counterbalanced rudder with 1" extensions on the back and top, Counter balanced elevators 1" wider with rudder opening cut to almost 45 degrees to allow maximum rudder throw, rear mount servos for elevator, pull-pull on rudder, and i made my canopy opening about 2" shorter and cut 4" off of the canopy to give it a little more hot rod look. I am putting an os70II surpass 4 stroke on mine with dubro composit landing gear. Bashing is so much fun. I would suggest this kit to anyone. Building is fast and bashing is a must

I thought about moving the servos to the rear of my latest SSE but I'm glad I didn't. The plane came out very tail-heavy as it was with a Super Tigre 45 up front. If you were to do rear mounted servos though, it would just involve framing something out of light ply in the lightening holes toward the rear fo the fuse. If you keep the servos in the stock location, throw out the pushrods that come with the kit. They'll change lengths whenever the temperature changes even slightly. I'd go with solid 2-56 or 4-40 rods, carbon fiber, etc. A .70 sized 4-stroke should fly the plane excellent. I hear the Saito .82 isn't too bad either.
As for building the SSE, it's an excellent kit that you'll enjoy.

Aslo, if you do a 4-stroke, you'll be running a larger prop so new landing gear is necessary. I used aluminum gear from TNT. It's both stronger and taller than stock. www.tntlandinggear.com

No formers needed... just re-glue one of the knockouts back in on the right side of the fuse cut your opening and add a small amount of light ply where the sevro screws are to give them a little bite. My last SE had this same mod with just an OS50SX up front and it balanced right on the nuts with the battery under the fuel tank. If you came out "very tail heavy" without aft mounted servos... I think I'd be looking at how much glue was used etc. Not to mention this plane has a pretty wide cg range anyway. just my .02
Look at my thread and you'll see the mod... again this is the second SE I've done this exact same mod to. The first one I had for 3-4 years and it flew great... until... well let's not talk about that. lol
