Default Astro Hog Good First Kit?

I have been flying for about a year and a half, and have built a Superstar 40 Trainer, Goldberg Tiger 2, Thunder Tiger Lazy Tiger P51 and I am now building a Supersportster 40. All were ARF's. I know that sooner or later one of these planes will bite the dust.

I want the experience of building my first Kit, and I really like the Sig Astro Hog's that guys fly in our club. Am I biting off too much with the Hog as my first kit? I am sure I can get assistance from club members if I need it, but would prefer to do the assembly without assistance.

Thanks for your help!

Terry

I've just completed the SIG Astro Hog myself and I haven't built a kit in about 15 years. It is not a beginners kit but if you've been flying and building all those ARF's you should be able to handle it.

There is alot of shaping in the nose area and some bending of balsa to sheet the fuse using water to make it plyable. This is all very well explained in the instruction. I found that if I just read ahead and pictured what was taking place it went together nicely.

Don't worry about building it by yourself. Alot of the fun of being in this hobby is meeting the people that are willing to help. And I've never seen so many that truly enjoy helping.

Enjoy the Astro Hog

Greg,

Thanks for the comments about the Hog. I cannot agree with you more about people willing to help. I feel so fortunate to have met so many great guys in the Benton County RC Club here in Corvallis, OR. They have been so helpful over the past year and a half. In a way, that is why I wanted to do most of the building myself because I have been given so much assistance already. You are right saying that they would gladly help again.

In the summer of 2001 there was an article about our RC club in the local paper that caught my eye. I went out to the flying field to check it out and have enjoyed RC flying more than I could have ever expected.

Thanks again,

Terry
