RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 build
According to Motocalc 8 to 10 minutes. This is definately an overkill setup with a better then 1:1 thrust to weight ratio. I got a great deal on the motor that I couldn't pass up. I also have the batteries from another project thats been put off for now. So they are inter-changeable. Once I get the ESC I'm going to do some bench testing and have a good set of performance numbers.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 build
This weekend i've made some adjusts in my toy... :P
Since i'm not going to use nylon screws, i had to add a small wood block to wing bottom.....without this, the wing mount wouldn't resist and crash and i tight screw...
(See pictures)
Also, i'm building an oil catcher...since i'll need to add weight to nose, i decided to build this one. It's an oild tank, wich will be used to store oil that came out from my engine (Saito FG-20). Is not too much, but for a long time fly it could make my little toy durt like glow engines :P
Looks a small tank, with 3 tubes: one came from engine, one for draw the oil and one to atmosphere, since i can't close all tube. This little tank it's 4x4cm and it's made from an old fuel tank, from a U-Control plane.
PS: this 'tank' is painted now :P looks a lot better

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 build
Can anybody confirm that engine has a little angle in this kit?
Loooong time after glueing my firewall, i noticed that he has a little angle to down (the firewall) and i glued flat, i mean, 90º :| Or my plans are wrong? It's a tiny angle, but exist...that's right? Because if yes, i'll have to make this angle in engine mount now :/
Tks

jmaurin, The plans show a 2 degree down angle for the engine mount. that is built into the orginial firewall. If you build the firewall out & use the same size material all the way around, you should maintain the 2 degrees.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 build
Good Day all... I have a bit of a situation. I have a TF Cessna 182 that a friend needs some help with and I need your help to help the friend!?!?! The aircraft is already built, but it is VERY tailheavy, or so it seems!!! When I checked it out, craftsmanship was OK. It was painted just like on the box, fiberglassed, the whole nine yards. When I took off the cowl, I found a beat up SuperTigre .90 (no carb, and someone took a beltsander to the head so it would fit without having to cut the cowl)!!! The engine mout was made of two hardwood beams and in between the beams was a sheet of lead, folded over and over (about a pound), and all of this weight was needed to keep the tail off of the ground!!! I called the god folks at Top Flite and they told me that it souldn't have taken tthat much weight to balance it with a .90 in the nose!!! I agreed!!! Servos (in the fuse) are all as far forward as possible, and battery too!!! Is there any way to lighten the tail without destroying the paintjob??? I haven't weighed the plane, so I don't know how close it is to being overweight; it may already be!!! Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 build
ducted,
I don't know of any way to lighten the tail with out messing it up. The first thing to do would be to assemble the plane to a ready-to-fly state then balance it on the wings per the instructions to see just where you're at with the weight issue. My T/F 182 is quite heavy at 14.5 lbs. It has a OS FT-120 twin and I had to add very little weight to the firewall to balance. Flys like a dream, BTW. It could be that your friend just got carried away with the glass and resin and got it way tail heavy. If you can, weigh it and post back.

Hi ductedfan, Sounds like your friend did not use the original motor mount, which is OK, but one thing you should check is to make sure that the prop hub is 59mm forward of the orginal firewall. If he moved the engine rear-ward, that will make a big difference on the CG and make it tail heavy. Moving the engine forward a slight amount will ofset a larger amount of weight at the tail. In the real word, CG is based on "Moment" which is the amount of weight either forward or in back of the balance point ( CG ). I.E. one pound of weight 6 inches behind a balance point will lift considerably more weight that is placed 2 inches in front of the same balance point. Good Luck.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 build
Finally started painting mine.
I ended up putting the paint on pretty thick, and it has a bit of texture to it. I'm pretty sure I just need to reduce the paint more to get a better finish. I am happy with it though. I think it turned out very good for my first attempt at painting.
Next up will be a coat of white on the wing and all the control surfaces. Then I"ll do two shades of blue trim. Who knows, maybe one day I'll actually finish this plane!
NOTE: Klass Kote is not compatible with plastic cups! Experienced painters know this already I'm sure, but I mixed up my paint in a plastic cup only to have the cup dissolve and the paint spill all over the table. There is a good chance I will not have enough to finish now and will have to order more. :-(

Glass measuring cups work great for mixing paint. You already have a scale to mix the correct portions, pours easily into the paint gun and it wont melt. Easy to clean up also.

The plastic cups in the paint section works good. Don't use styrofoam or the plastic solo drinking cups. Lacquer thinner in the paint eats it up. I use the quart size at walmart and I also used KlassKote. Teookie, it's good to see you back at it. Looking good.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 build
I've been eyeing this kit for about 6 months. Started looking at the ARF, but don't care for the color scheme so I want to build. Quick question: has anyone out there ever attempted to convert the wings to plug-in and make the center section part of the fuselage? As you can see, I'm scheming a kit bash already.
Edit: Nice to see the original poster is still working on it. I love the scheme you decided on!

My local hobby shop just got one of the ARF TF182's in, and the hobby shop owner is going to assemble it for the customer. The plane is covered with monocoat and not a very good job at that. lots of wrinkles in the covering. You still have to buy the radio and figure out what you are going to power it with. I did like the wing tips that come with the ARF, fiberglass with the lights already installed and they are only $20.00 for both. I ordered them for my kit. I will be watching the shop owner put it together.

I build mine as a one piece wing and wish I'd done it different. That long wing is a PITA to transport. If I did it again, I'd make it a three piece wing. It wouldn't be difficult. The center section still needs to be removable since that's how you get to the receiver, servos etc.

The three blade prop looks cool on the plane, Waht pitch & diameter did you use? What engine did you install?

Hi again!!!
I got another semi-finished cessna and i have a little problem. The old builder glued the balsa sheet from top of fuel tank/servos and now i can`t put my servos and fuel tank. Any idea? I`m really loocking for solutions instead of replace/remove this balsa sheet and place a new one :/
Tks
