Default Really dreading covering.

Have the 90 inch wingspan GP Cub ready to cover wing, but been stalling for over a month. First kit really, think I did a great job with wing, but worried about ruining it.

Ailerons are built up, and I do not think I made the ribs concave in relation to LE/TE, I am worried that such a flat ribbed surface, the monocote wont properly cover.

I have read all the stuff I can, any tips for covering a big fat wing and the ailerons in detail?

Don't worry about it OldMill, they will cover just fine. Read the covering article, and you shouldn't run into any major problems.

The best advice that I can give is.......
Don't be in a hurry. Set yourself up in the living room, familyroom... on a couch with a door on the ottomans and plug away at it. It'll usually take me 1 night to do the little trim work, around the edges, joints, wingtips, gear plate... Another night for the wings with the trim and a third for the fuse and tail. If you rush it you'll only get frustrated.

I know exactly how you feel Old Mill. My first covering job was on the 76" wingspan GP Cub. The ribs on the built up "barndoor ailerons" on mine were flat and they turned out fine. The hardest part for me to learn was covering the wingtips and the fuselage stringers between the cockpit and the tail area. Just do what Mike and Chris suggest. Read the covering article and don't be in a hurry. Also buy at least one more roll of Cub Yellow Monocote (I'm just assuming that's what you'll use) than the instructions recommend to allow for some mistakes, and invest in a good covering and trim iron, a good heat gun, and one of those heat resistant gloves for gripping the covering when doing the wingtips. Who knows? After you've built and covered a few more planes, you may actually begin to enjoy the covering process! Good Luck...Len

You also might want to try 21st Century Fabric. It's already colored (and yes, it comes in Cub Yellow) and it's easier to work with than MonoKote, and it looks GREAT on a Cub.

Cub covered in 21st fabric, and it was easy to do. Just take your time like the others have said and you should do just fine.
