CH Super Chipmunk Cowl ?
I have a CG Super Chipmunk and I have a nice aftermarket fiberglass cowel for it. I am trying to figure out how to cut the holes in the cowl without having to cut the cowl in half as directed in the CG manual. Anybody have any hints as to how they did it?
Thanks

RE: CH Super Chipmunk Cowl ?
I used the same method that RCKen has suggested. I did, however, make an access hatch in the cowl to facilitate removal/installation of the engine. I hole is cut in the hatch to allow the engine cylinder to stick out using the RCKen's method. To fit the engine into the airframe I would install the cowl, lay the pitts muffler in the bottom of the cowl, bolt the engine in place, then bolt up the muffler, then install the hatch. You could practice on a soda bottle to get the feel of how to do it before cutting into your fiberglass cowl. This would also give you a rough but pretty close idea of how large the access hatch should be cut. I've included some pictures of the finished product but not the removed hatch, as I do not have any. Good luck! Think it through well before cutting.

If it is not too late mount the engine inverted. The cowl will easily slide off. The picture shows my cowl covering an OS 90 FS.
