Tinting a canopy-suggestions?
Back to work on a CG Ultimate and thought I would like to try to slightly tint the canopy a grey colour. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Tinting a canopy-suggestions?
try using clothes dye in luke warm water, place the canopy in that water and leave to saoak for about 15-25 minutes. to get a stronger or weaker tint simply vary the concentraiton of dye in the water.

Canopy tinting
The clothes dye as Balsa sugested works great.
It is available in lots of colors and is real cheap.
Simply mix it in warm water and stick your canopy in it.
I use aluminum foil turkey basting trays to hold the water and dye. DO NOT DO IT IN YOUR SINK OR BATHTUB!!!!! The color is permanent.
I have canopys that are 10 years old done in this method and they still look great.

canopy color
The clothes dye "powder" seems to work best. Use warm tap water, don't do what I did once and get it too hot-it distorted the canopy and I had to order a new one.
Also the longer you leave it, the darker it will get.
By the way, there is some plastic canopies out there that won't accept the dye.
Good luck

Type "canopy tinting" in the search box at the top of this page and you will see many threads with detailed procedure and pics.
Rit dye with 140 degree F. water worked for me. Good luck.

Tinting a canopy-suggestions?
I tinted a canopy using "Rit" powder, I used black hoping for a gray color but it came out an orangey brown color. I changed my color scheme and made it work. Did i do something wrong? How do i get gray? thanks.

I use Rit dye, from most stores,in hot water, use a piece of scrap to test, some plastics will not take the dye also some plastics will harden and curl if the water gets to hot

Tinting a canopy-suggestions?
I had already trimmed my butyrate canopy off the flashing but decided to try tinting it. Kept the water at 130 to 140º and added a 1/4 cup of salt and a pint of vinegar to a pail of Navy Blue Rit dye. Came out evenly shaded and lusterous, but the most horrible shade of purple!! It looked worse light ( 10 and 20 minutes), so I left it in for two hours to get it good and dark.
Everything is fine except for the awful shade. I guess it will be "Eastery."
I have to see it in the daylight before I order a replacement.

I used the Pactra spray on paing (same stuff the car guys use), mainly b/c I wanted a darker tint than I could get usin the dye method.
Perfect for me.....
btw- If you decide to go this route, and you have never spray painted before, practice on a test piece first. You have to apply very thin coats for it to look right (I think it took me a dozen or so to get it where I wanted). Just take your time.
