Hey everyone, been in RC for about a year now. I have had a Tower Hobbies Trainer, which I eventually put an OS .55AX in which made it really fast.
Then, I took the engine out of that plane and put it into my .46 U-can-do which I have had a great time flying.
Both of these planes were ARFs and I would like to build a plane from a kit over the winter, maybe a couple planes. I do not know how difficult the process is so I am asking for advice. Should I start with building something easy without any complex curves such as a sig four-star?
Also, do you know of any websites with good general kit building information? Thinks like tips and tricks, tool information, glue selection, and all that basic stuff. Or perhaps a book on the subject.
Thank you for your time.

The 4* is always A great choice for A first kit build and the plane is A good one. The curves and contours are only A problem when covering, not in the build itself. {{With in reason}} RCU has all the information you need, you just have to look for it A little.
Good luck!!

I recomend you the Carl Golberg Tiger 60, (for your .55 engine) is a very easy kit for build, nice second plane.

I agree that the 4 star is a great flying plane but I did not know they put it out in a kit. Learn something new everyday even at my advanced age. LOL

Zephirus,
If you can fly a U-Can Do, Try building a Sig Somthin' Extra or a Tower Uproar. Or if you want to build a plane to learn aerobatics on, build a Tower Kaos. That 55AX in either one will be quite a combination.
Good luck with whichever one you choose and make sure to keep us posted. Also remember that if you run into a problem, post it here and someone will be more than willing to help you out. One last thing is to remember something my dad always told me which is "there is no such thing as a dumb question"
Fly safe and have fun!!

The 55AX would work well in a 40 size GP Extra 300S. I have a ST G51 in mine and it was a great build. You should have no problems with with the build or flying it. Great looking plane when done...
Good Luck,

Your engine should be able to power a 4Star 60. I would add an inch to the rudder and build it as per the kit. Great flying plane - I recommend it as a trainer. It is not that much harder to fly than a trainer. The price is reasonable, it flys great for what it is - you can use it to sharpen your flying skills. I have two that I take out occasionaly and let my buddies fly them in between their giant 3D and scale stuff. They enjoy them as much as I do to just relax and fly some nice 'sorta' precision flying.

Questions about what plane to get or kit to build are always interesting to me.
Please talk about what kind of flying you like to do.
Do you fly the U-Can-Do 3d or do you toss it around the pattern doing loops and rolls.
Are you interested in pattern aerobatics ?
Do scale aircraft interest you ?
Here are some links for kits.

He went from a trainer to a U-Can-Do, and didn't say how he flies it or what he is interested in at this time.
The kits being recommended are very good kits, but will they be the kind of plane he will want to fly ?
