I am in the beginning stages of building a GP J3 Cub. When I say beginning, I mean I haven't opened the box yet.
Would I be committing an immortal sin, and risk being kicked out of my club if I covered it in something other than the traditional "Cub" Yellow? I ask this question here, and not the old timers at my club for fear of being banished for even thinking such a thing.
If it is ok, then can someone recommend a site that might have a gallery of different color schemes that I might get an idea from? I have a general idea. But I have been known to change my mind once or ten thousand times before doing something.
Thanks to all who reply

Agree about the plastic being a sin.
An alternate color scheme your club members couldn't fuss about? There were many J-3 and J-4 cubs painted Olive Drab in the early 1940's. They also had stars painted on them.

White cubs exist. I modeled mine after a homebuilt Cub exact replica that was painted orange. Many choices out there, and I'm sure people would be happy to see something different!

I've seen Cubs covered in a variety of different colors. They look cool dressed in something other than "Cub" Yellow. Look around up here on RCU. I think there's a few floating around in different colors.

A Sin to cover a cub in plastic ,???????
Its your plane and your imagination .
actually , Im just about to rip the old yellow skin off my cub, and recover it
Im also going to modify it to include flaps at the same time.
My input for what it is worth , cover your plane in whatever makes you happy, forget about the conventions of the repressed and think outside the box .not only will your plane be original ,but an expression your own imagination.

I saw a red, white and blue Cub this past Sunday flying over Colorado Bend State Park in Texas. It looked great. I have a set of pictures from Bob Banka for a PA-11 that is yellow with a blue stripe. But, I think I'm going to look for something else when it comes time to finish my model.

A friend is just in the painting stages of his Cub restoration. He has a 1928 Travelair 4000 with orange wings and black fusalage and he is going to paint the Cub in the same colors. Should be painted by the middle of next month and flying by mid June so let me know if you want some pictures. Don

They are mostly PA-18's, but there's a whole slew of 'em and a lot of 'em aren't yellow.

Thanks to all of you. Now I can hold my head high in front of all the old timers at the club, and ignore all of the whispering and shuns.
I seen a blue and white J3 on floats that I fell in love with. I didn't like the exact scheme, but it gave me an idea on what I wanted. Thanks also for the plastic/cloth insight. This is my first covering job though. Is there a difference in difficultly between the two. And while I am asking. I have heard many different opinions on irons, and heat guns. What do you guys think is better. Or do I need both?
Thanks to TailDraggin for the address.

Use your imagination - it's a "model" airplane. If you do the fabric, it's very good looking, but is heavier than the plastic. Cubs can get tail heavy depending on your engine choice.

Thanks to all who have replied.
I think I have an idea on how I want to cover it. I think I am going to get a little hands on guidance from someone around here who has done it before. I want to go with blue and white. I am sure multi colored schemes are much harder to get right than solid colors. I will be sure to post pics of my masterpiece when it is done.
