Default fluorescent transparent ultracote?

i'm close to the covering stage for my first kit and i'd really like to go with a transparent covering to show off the venture 60's quality and my own not so bad first effort. visibility is a concern so i was leaning toward a fluorescent red/yellow color scheme but it's next to impossible to tell how that's gonna look from the various websites (horizon, quantum, etc.).

does anyone have experience (or better yet - pictures!) with the fluorescent transparent coverings? is this going to look goofy and am i better off just going with the regular red/yellow transparents?

thanks much,

boneman

Haven't tried the transparents, yet, but the Ultracote fluorescents(opaques) look wonderful, IMHO. That's all I use anymore on my planes. Easier to see in the air and lots of comments in the pits, too.

Some say they fade over time but I wax each season and haven't seen too much evidence of it.

Here are a few pix of a 4*60 covered on Ultracote fluorescent yellow (they call it safety yellow) and fluorescent magenta. Perhaps will give you some idea what the transparents may look like (?)

(There is a mirror under the plane showing the bottom detail---3" wide strips of Ultracote fluorescent lime and mirror silver...ugly but seeable!)

that's sweet - thanks for taking the time to post the pictures - i appreciate it. i too am placing a premium on visibility and it sure would be hard to lose that plane!

last call for someone with experience/pictures of the fluorescent AND transparent options? )

p.s. i see you have some triangle stock bracing the horizontal stabilizer. the venture 60 doesn't call for that in the plans but i intend to add that for additional support. did you cover them before you glued them on or vice-versa? thanks again for the pics - that's a very nice looking covering job

Thanks, guys.

Yes, the triangle stock gets covered first, then epoxied in after you cut off the contact side covering so it's wood-to-wood.

I usually add it to all my planes, just a little insurance, yes?

I have used Transparent ultracoat lite on planes. First I painted the balsa frame with walmart flourecent paint. Shows great in the air!
