Keith, The horizontal stab is a 2 piece sheeted stab joined together with epoxy and then a 1/4 oz fiberglass strip laid on the joint. On the fusealage is a reference line as to where the centerline of the stab should be. Before you glue the stab together use it to lay out your holes you are going to dremmel out later. an insedence meter is very helpful here to get it at 0 degrees. after you get both sides laid out you can take a dremmel tool and a sanding drum and cut out the area for the stab to slide into. after you have it cut out, epoxy 2 pieces of lite balsa on the underside of the cut outs so the stab has a place to rest on. slide the stab in and from there you can adjust it for proper angles and fit. when you are satisfied with the fit tack it down with some epoxy on the balsa blocks and let set up. then mix up some slow cure epoxy and micro balloons to a peanutbutter thickness and fill in the area around the stab . this sets the stab in for good. as for the muffler I plan on using the stock muffler.

As you can see i have used tubes for my 4-40 wires but I have since decided to install the servos on the outside .I was not happy with the way it was working for me so I made a change.

Pic 1 shows the fuel dot for filling
Pic 2,3, and 4 showes how I cut up the cowl. I split it down the center on the bottom side so I can take it of and on super easy and you can't tell it
Pic 5 shows how I reworked the elevator servos.

Ya know I thought the same thing. Man this little engine has alot of power. The lhs was out of switches and I need one for the kill switch for the engine. Also need a regulator cause I plan on using lipos for ignition and servos. I will post a better video later after I make some adjustments.

Pic 1,2, and 3 show how the engine and electronics are mounted to the firewall. Just 4 scews and everything comes out at once. Real handy.
Pic 4 is a battery tray for the electronic ignition I laid velcro on the battery and the tray so I could adjust the cg. I installed a 2700 mah nimhd for the EI
AND FINALLY MY COMPLETED SET UP !!!!!!! (drum roll) da dum tee dumm!!!!!!!!!!!
This project is completed and hopefully I can test tomorrow weather permitting. Will try to get a video of first flight. As usual there is going to be adjusting till everything is right.

lrglnman,
I've been following your build thread. The plane looks sweet. Have you flown it yet? I'm building the G&L Hobbies Extra 230 1/4 scale. The plans show to put the cg on the wing tube. The wing tube is 40 to 45% of the wing root. I think the cg is to far aft for the first flight. I'm moving it forward for my first flight. Just wondering where you put the cg on your Extra 300. Mine is 6lbs. without engine and flight gear. I'm excited to see it fly. Good luck,
darrolair

RE: G & L Hobbies Extra 300 build thread
well guys! The extra went in on maiden. The g20 seemed to have more than enough power for this plane. with a 15-8 prop. was hard to handle. the the roll was nice and streight. but upon lift off I almost lost it, but got control of it. started to get some altitude but when I let go of the elevator it instantly nosed over . sever trim prob. so as I was trimming it out on the second turn it snaped and rolled streight in . total loss of the plane. most everything else survived. I think I may have hit the aileron causing the snap or I had rudder probs. one of the 2 caused the crash. other than the elevator the plane was tracking nicely. I had my cg set to the plans just in front of the spar. I will build another of gregs kits. the one you are building is my next one. I really like this style of building. I have a mold for a 4* 120 type plane that I am going to put the g20 on next. it builds just like the extras. tyhe 1/4 scale is a nice flying plane.
One thing I would do different is on the nose I would build a box like the arfs are made to extend the engine out further to help in the ballancing and to place the ignition box and battery.you should have plenty of cowl space to do that. I had 3 inches of cowl that slid up on the fusealage. I also could have had too much down thrust as well. I recommend you do the firewall as I did on mine it was a snap to work on and most of gregs planes he has is build this way.
