Today was maiden flight for both planes. I enlisted the help of one of the veteran pilots for the test flights. Took the Tiger up first, and according to this gentleman, she flew like a dream with only a couple clicks of "up" and couple clicks of ailiron. Balance was right on.
Next was the PT-40, This time we set up the buddy box, although I let Ken do the take off, and am I glad he did, soon as it got off the ground she nosed up for the moon.....come to find out this plane loves to be very much nose heavy, he got it on the ground safely, and I cut off the lead on the tail and we did it again. This time she did what she was supposed to do. After he got her trimed out, he switched it to me for some basic pattern work, after the jitters settled down I made a couple approches and desided to try and land, got her on the ground but dumb thumbed, and almost ran it off the runway into a concrete barrier. Good thing Ken was there, he took back control and saved her, and then asked if I wanted to try a take off, so I said yep, after remebering that controls are backward when the plane is coming at you, I got her straight and headed down the runway, take of was very smooth, did some more pattern work and came back to land and with the exception of a hard bounce which dinged the prop, I did it all by myself.
Am I ready to solo from now on?? Not just yet, but it wont be long.
I better get a supply of props though.....
A guy gets pretty rusty after 18 years....but I think I faired pretty well considering.

Hey Ed,
I have to heartily second the "Way To Go" form MinnFlyer. I got started in this hobby late. I was 50. I'm now 53 and enjoy every minute whether I'm building or flying. I remember my first solo flight and the feeling of accomplishment. Sounds like you'll be there shortly!
Good luck,
John
