Default Kits

Would like some opinions on kits from Vailly,Ikon Nwest, Pression Cut kits. Would like a 1/5 or Quarter DH Beaver or L-19 Bird Dog.
a. Are these complete kits?
b. Do they come with Assbly instructions?
c. does the hardware come with them?
d. Are they know to fly well?

Any other info you can give!

Thanks Rich

Well, I have a Roy Vaillencort 91" Sea Fury that was cut by Custom Kit Cutters. You get the wood (or a least most of it) you get the Plans from Roy & a picture stack of the building process is available along with a cowl & canopy - BUT NO written instructions of any kind. No Hardware. Can't comment of the flight characteristics as it's not done yet. If you've built several kits you'll be fine, otherwise you best stick with GP or TF or Sig.

Vailly only sells plans, and some of the accessories, like cowls, wheels etc. If you get one of his plans sets, they are very complete, but there's no "instructions" with them. You have to be able to read from the plans and know what you need to do first, then 2nd, and so on. NO HARDWARE. Not for a beginner. He does have photo packs of many of the building steps available. Ikon, on the other hand, sells complete kits; wood, plans, and "instructions", but maybe not as explicit as building a Sig or Great Planes kit. Trouble with Ikon is, can you get anything from them. I would not recommend ordering from them unless you're prepared for the frustration of waiting, waiting, waiting some more, trying to contact him to find out where the heck your stuff is that you paid for 6 months ago, etc. the planes are good flying planes, though, if you get one and build it right.

Precision Cut Kits is a custom kit cutter. Larry has kits available for most all of the major plans designers (Vaillancourt, Hostetter, Palmer, Ziroli, etc). Some of the more popular kits are laser cut and immediately available, some they only cut when they receive an order. You can send your plans to them, and they will custom cut your kit. It's best to call and talk to Larry Katona before you send anything, and work out the details first.

I'm building Vailly's 1/4 scale BirdDog now. I had Precision cut the kit for me. It is one of the more popular kits, and I got it within 3 weeks of ordering it. It is laser cut and the wood is great quality. You can follow my thread on the Warbirds and Warplanes Forum, under "25% Cessna L-19 BirdDog Build", and see how the plans look, and the parts.
