when a good flat building board, t-pins, balsa, aliphatic glue, butyrate dope and tissue were necessary components for ANY airplane model.

I remember when a right turn was push the button once and a left turn was push the button twice.
Or something like that it has been a long lime.

When a date went like this:

5 Gallons of gas in Dad's car
Dinner at the diner
Movie theater or drive in for two with snacks

Still having some change left from the 6 bucks I started with.

sigh...

oh, yeah.. models... When you had no choice but to build your own airplane, you bought an engine that invariably had a hokey space name like rocket, meteor, or comet, and had the opportunity to make your own radio system from scratch, plans or a kit. Of course, being young, I always was happy to see the next airplane magazine for the hot models on the front cover., and I don't mean flying models!!! The covering on them was superb!!

When the coolest airplane I could want was a control line Ringmaster.

I had to settle for a Baby Ringmaster because all I had was an .049 engine.

Just found this thread:

Boy, that was a long time ago!

Being careful not to bump the sliding trims on my Tx for my Grasshopper or else I'd have to trim them out again.

I remember when Hazel Sig might just swoop out of the sky and land at your field, take some pictures, shake some hands, and sign some autographs.

I remember Sinclair gas stations and Gas Wars.

Bob
Remember when Sinclair gave away those inflatable dinosars?
"There's a Tiger in your tank" and the commercials with a tiger tail hanging out of the fuel door.
"The commercials where the guy drove around without a car, just a steering wheel.
Remember when Exxon was named ESSO?

When the Idea of bolt on wings was a novelty?
When someone got you one of those godawful Cox plastic C/L airplanes in a box that flew better with the engine off? And ripping out the engines as soon as possible to put them in the latest free flight you built?
When the best thing there was for Monokote was a travel iron?
Snoopy flying doghouse?
Sterling models?
