I'm building a 27% Midwest Cap 232 and I've been trying to make it as light as possible, as I have heard this kit builds heavy. The kit comes with lite ply shear webs for use between the first 3 ribs on both sides on the spar.
Can I replace the lite ply shear webs with balsa without fear of catastrophic failure? I'm really trying build this thing light. Thanks.

I don't think you'll save any appreciable weight if that's the only place you'll change things, and you'r giving up considerable strength with the lite ply compared to the balsa. There must be a reason the lite ply is called for there. I'm not familiar with the particular kit, but it sounds like that area might have a removable wing joiner that fits in a "box" along the spar. If so, I'd definitely go with the light ply in that area.

You may want to use your dremel tool to enlarge the fuse sides and up and down holes, that will save a significantly amount of weight. As per the webbing I would use a thinner ply instead of balsa on that specific area.
