In the construction of this model, to hold the landing gear wires (6 pieces) together after wrapping them together with copper wire, it is suggested that thick CA be used to secure the pieces in preparation to soldering. Does anyone have any idea as to whether the fumes that would be generated during soldering would be toxic? I am reluctant to try this because I had a friend lose the sight in one eye from CA fumes. I always have a small fan blowing when using CA.

If they are wrapped with wire why the CA? If you need to tack them with CA do the sodering outside with a fan and wear a mask. Good luck.

As I recall, this came up several years ago and it was found that the fumes from CA when heated with a soldering iron ARE toxic. I would recommend not doing it.

Nice little plane. We have one my buddy built that we take out occasionally and sit in a chair and soar around.

Thanks for the info and the photos. I noticed a guy wire extending from the rudder to the stabilizer. These are not shown on the plans I have. I was wondering if they are necessary and what they are made fo. I am always looking for new and helpful ideas.

The tail looked a little flimsy to me so I had Flaps (the builder) add the guy wires. They are made from the lightest weight weed eater line, weigh next to nothing and work fine. We drilled 1/16" holes, ran the line around the tail and fuselage bottom and used medium CA to hold it in place.

Since you have built the Quaker Flash I would be interested in how you glued the windshield material to the plane so it doesn't look like a rank amateur did it. I would like a clean look. If you have any suggestions on making a windshield pattern I would also be interested.

The last thing you want to do is to contaminate the area to be joined in soldering. Go to Radio Shack and buy some tinned bus wire to wrap the joints. Then get some Stay-Brite solder and follow the instructions.
