I was wondering if there is anything that can be done to protect kits that will be stored for a year or more before I have time to build them.
Plastic Wrap, vacuum bags, etc.
I store them in a basement that is cool and not really damp. I have enough kits for 3 or 4 years of building seasons

I have stored kits for many years without any special methods, and the only problem I've had is the plan getting yellowed and brittle.
You might want to be sure the canopy, if included, is not under a stress that could distort it.
Other than that, put it on a shelf in an INSIDE closet, and forget it. The kits wont like temperature extremes any more than you do.
Bill.
PS: I have had canopies turn yellow, but they often do that anyway. Check any posted picture of my "Tiggerkitty." wr.

The yellowing is caused by the acid in the paper, if they are sealed in an airtight package they will only yellow slightly, if at all.
FLYBOY does bring up a valid point, though. If the plan is a genuine "Blue" print, made by the Diazo process, it will fade over time. Best to take a Diazo to Kinko's or similar shop for a more permanent copy before storage of the kit.
