You may be able to use the matched color paint and then top it off with a gloss clear. I've never done this so I'm not sure how the finished result would turn out, but I've seen it suggested before.

Some LHS carry the matching paint, if not then look at Towers site or book. They used to make it for most of there colors and it was fuel proof. If you want it to be more of a matt finish then you can spray it with there clear without problems.

Any decent automobile paint supplier can match any color you want. The only problem you might encounter is that they won't want to sell you less than a quart. They can however mix a pint so you might have to sweet talk them. Can't find a paint supplier? Call any good auto body shop and they will refer you to a good place. I recommend Dupont Imron epoxy but it's expensive. I would not buy enamel because I think fuel will eat it up. Acrylic lacquer is probably your second best choice. If you are stuck with enamel you could clear coat it with fuel proof paint.

I've put the clear gloss over dull paint & it came out fine. I always spray clear-coat over my cowls & wheel pants, it gives a little more protection. If the color is just a little damp yet, no need to sand. If the color has dried, I'll sand with a 400 grit & put the clear to it.

I do not know how many reds there are within coverite, but I've matched a piece of coverite fabric and I have a color I call "coverite red". I have never seen a photo of the finished aircraft but the color looked good when held up to the small sample of fabric i was provided with...

FFTG

As you have already discovered ,matching the color
isn't a problem . Matching the gloss is another story.

IMO the only way I've found to get the gloss factor
to match between different coverings is to use a
top coat over the entire surface.

I typically use latex paints with a gloss or semi-gloss
latex top coat I get from Lowes. It's made by Cabot.
(a local supplier).

I understand that Dupi-color makes a auto clear top coat
as well but to date I haven't tyied it.

Good luck,
Roby

I've used Top- Flight Lustre Coat for quite a while to "clear coat for the shine over everything. No troubles so far. Even when it don't need it, I'll put it on for the extra protection.
