alright have one on the way from tower, so this is going to be my first bipe, 2nd kit to put together first kit was a 4*40 also flying a gp supersportster mrkII which i love to fly, i have read the threads on this kit and seems to be a four stroke is the choice to power this thing but i am not sure about the funds for a engine that size i was thinking about a os61 fx so if anyone is flying one with that setup let me know how it flys, guess i should say all i want is to do some loops and rolls but nothing major i just had to have a bipe, always loved the way they look so if anyone is using a 61 let me know how it powers the plane thanks i will post pics soon on the building thanks again mike

I'm using a K&B .61 with a tuned pipe that goes past the cockpit. Good combination of weight and power and that two-stroke off throttle burble.
No added weight to the front or rear, no modifications to the building sequence, two aileron servos and 4-40 hardware on these and the inter-aileron linkages (prior experience with Ultimate Bipe).
I dumped it hard (tx antenna down) and it's still rebuildable and will be up again in a week or so.
Overall, I like the speed of building compared to the other bipes I've built, though the ultimate looks nicer sitting down, and the Sterling Stearman flys more scale-like.

I Have a Hog with an os61fx and though it's not Unlimited vertical,it climbs strait up a couple hundred feet with a 12x6 apc on it. The only mod I did was to mount the engine sideways and put a cowl on it. I've had the plane 4 years now and love flying it.

I too have a Hog Bipe kit in the queue waiting to be built. Was thinking of putting a .90 4-stroke in it. Anyone know how this will affect the CG? Will the weight in the nose be too much and require adding weight to the tail or moving servos back there?
For 4 strokers I've got an OS .91 surpass or an Enya 90-4C, for 2 stroke I've got an OS .61FX, and a K&B .61 with Perry carb & pump. Any opinions on the best motor for this model? I'll be expecting to put it through its paces.

I just finished mine with a Saito .91 and didn't add any weight to get the balance right.
armyrcer, I know exactly how you feel about not wanting to spend the extra $$$ to get a four stroke. The OS61 will pull it fine. The extra money buys sound and feel, but after getting mine up in the air, I've got to say in this case it was worth it. That sound and power go great with the fact that its a bipe.

IMHO I'll take a TT 91 FS Thunder Tiger anyday over a .61 FX. I love these engines and own two...heck I like them more than my YS 91 (value wise)! You can pick them up from Tower for around 164-169 delivered (179-(10-15) promo). You will not be disapointed in this motor. Search around on this forum and you will come to discover that the TT 91 FS has as big a sweet spot in many peoples heart as the Hog Bipe...and is truly a spot on match for that plane.
I had to add an ounce and a half to the tail and it still has unlimited vertical. I have actually hovered it a few times, but end up losing it into a torque roll due to the small ailerons.
I love doing knife loops with this bipe...oh and P.S. it will do the most incredibly power on flat spins and inverted spins you have ever seen...soooo flat. I can't get a climbing inverted as it wants to roll out of it....again possibly the size of the ailerons?
This is one bipe and engine combo made in heaven. A bipe that actually glides yet has enough power to go straight up and into a snap roll at take off...its too good to be true!
last, you will be amazed at how fast this bipe goes together. Faster than some .40 size monoplanes i have built.

OS 91 FX, goes just about as fast up as it does horizontally! Now using a 14X5 prop, helps to slow it down for landing.
Also had one with an OS 70 Surpass, nice but marginal with floats.
An OS 61 will be fine.

I am currently building a hog-bipe and I have a TT .91 FS for it. I have the fuse and feathers done and am working on the wings now. I am doing a photo documentary on it and will post it when done. I will let you know how it balances with the TT on it.

My manual had instructions for 1 servo in the middle of the bottom wing driving all four ailerons as well. However, there was a single sheet page within the box with the instructions for using 2 ailerons, even told which lines in the original manual to strike and what to replace them with. All of the wood and hardware for the dual servo setup is also included with the kit.

mine has a magnum 91 with a 13x6 apc great combo and not too expensive also make sure to move the landing gear block forward about 3/4 of an inch . it will make ground handling soooo much better.

I left my gear in the stock location, and have managed to nose it over several times already. I think it was more of a matter of the pilot handling the plain like it was a low wing sport plane and trying to horse it around the runway. I never nose over from runway bumps, only dumb moves. Stock location seems good to me, looks great on landings when that tail doesn't want to drop until it really slows down.

For recommended mods on the Hog Bipe, check out Fubar Hill .
My Saito .91 up front required no additional work for balance.

I went with the Dave Brown mount on mine just to err on the side of caution.
Not that theres anything wrong with the Sig mount, the one piece mount is nice from the standpoint that once you draw the horizontal and vertical lines on the firewall, you line those up with the marks on the mount drill and attatch. No need to worry about getting the two individual sig mounts spaced the correct distance apart.

Mine snapped on the 2nd voyage in flight. Read your instructions carefully as there is a part that says either (don't use included mount or not suggested with .80 or larger) I can't remember off the top of my head. Luckily, I landed mine with the motor attached to the golden rod, will never use another brand for motor control again.
Anyways, Sig sent me the 1.20 size but I just went with the GP adjustable 1.20 it is soooo much easier. Most people sneak by with the included mount, but trust me its not worth the repairs and frustration. I only found 1 other person that this has happened too, and from the looks of my mount it must have had a flaw in it because it broke in a random spot, not even by the tapped hole. It actually broke through the thick angled cheek.
Do what you want, but there are at least two (probably more) people that ran .91's in the hog bipe and had the stock mount snap. Once you have used the GP adjustable mount you won't want to use another one. Again, the 1.20 size adjusts down to fit the TT 91 perfectly.
1 last thing...if you choose the TT 91 or a heavy 91 (i.e. YS). TAKE a hard look at moving your rudder servo, and putting two elevator servose in custom cutouts in the rear...I WISH I HAD as it would have balance out perfect instead of putting them up front. In fact if I get the time I will be moving mine as I would be able to remove about 2oz of lead fromt he tail.
