I'm looking for one of the plan sheets for the Sterling Stearman PT-17, 64.5" wingspan. There were two plan sheets, I need the one with the top wing on one side, and I'm not sure what's on the other side. If anyone has an old set they can part with let me know how much you'd like for it. Thanks.

Still looking for the plan sheet with the Upper Wing on one side and (I think) Final Assembly on the other. I'd be happy to put a deposit on the plans if someone will send them me. I'll do all the copying and then return them. I'll even make an extra copy for the person that sends them to me.

Assuming you're keeping things legal - why are you separating the plans from the kit?

Hi, I don't have the kit, just the plans. Was planning on scratch building if I could get hold of templates, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

I finally managed to get a set. I ended up contacting a couple people selling kits on ebay and offering to buy copies before they sold the kit. One very nice person agreed and though I was willing to pay more, did it for the cost of copying and shipping. I couple other people in the same position as you, plans but no kit, have pm'd me looking for patterns of the die cut parts. So if you still want to build from your plans I'm going trace the parts, scan them and post the scans on my website, hopefully this weekend. I'll start out with the fuse formers and whatever ribs I think are needed to build from plans.

Sterling is long out of business and I doubt Estes, who bought them, has any plans to protect the copywrite. So I don't think legality is an issue, or at least one I would worry about. I'd be completely happy if someone gathered up all the plans and sold copies of them. I've bought a few sets of Royal plans from a guy on ebay, goes by "u.s.wings". He does a great job and provides excellent plans. Unfortunately, as people have pointed out, the Sterling plans don't have templates.

I happen to be very lucky....

I have two of these planes.

The first is a complete plane that needs work to make it airworthy again.

The second is unbuilt in the box. As far as I can tell, it's all there, including cowl and engine templates. More than once I've thought about sending the kit down to Ed at Lazerworks so he could duplicate it. I don't know if he'd be willing to do so.. I'll have to ask him someday.

And PLANS?!!! Where were you when I needed you?[>:]

Some new/good news....

I emailed Ed down at Lazerworks. He's perfectly OK with me sending him the Sterling Stearman kit for duplication.... ! I just gotta get it boxed up and shipped... I don't have an appropriate box.. Hmmm.. Looks like I'll just have to order a kit for something from Tower.. Oh the sacrifices I make....

Also, it looks Fiberglass specialties has cowls and possible faux radial engines.

I am curious whether you completed the scanning and posting of the Stearman parts. I don't find the URL for your website on the thread.

I'm really interested in building this kit and haven't been luck finding it on e-bay.

Once you have the Sterling plans, it would be wise to take them to an office scanning office (like Kinko's) and get at least another set to build on (keeps the original clean).  While they're at it, ask them to drop the images onto a CD-ROM.  You can then print reproductions of formers, etc. for construction patterns, CNC machines or sharing with friends.

I didn't read thru all the posts but I have a kit and can copy the plan sheet you need. All you would have to do is pay cost of copy and S&H.
