what are the goods and bads about this plane ? the .90 size doesnt ballance with a .90 i've heard. and read in MOD AIR NEWS
YOU have to use a heavier engine or add 14 oz of dead weight in the nose. i dont know much about the .40, it seems like it would be a
good easy flier. any info appreciated .

I had a forty sized Eindecker a few years ago (I forget who the manufacturer was).
It flew very scale - READ, slow and too gentle for me. [:'(]
The biggest problem that I had with it was the high angle of the nose, while taking off one day I bounced into the air before I had flying speed. The resulting tip stall had me fighting for control as it screamed over the pits at an altitude of 10'.
After that; I learned to slowly build up the takeoff speed, Lift the tail and HOLD the PLANE ON THE GROUND until there was enough airflow to give me control of the plane. Once in the air it was as gentle as a trainer.
As to balancing the plane - yes - you will have to add weight to the front end. The nose is too short not too.
Good Luck!

I've built and flown the 40 size Eindecker from BalsaUSA and it definitely flies very scale like with the proper power. Mine was electric and all the radio gear was all up front in order to balance the plane.
My only suggestion is to strengthen the stab. BUSA uses flat sheet stabs and in a hard loop it will break (happened to me), but flown in a scale manner there are no problems.

To reduce weight in the nose you could build up the tail surfaces insttead of using the supplied sheet surfaces. regarding short tail moment, that could add to some squirreliness but also be sure to add some toe-in to the main gear to help reduce or eliminate that. I believe the sides are also sheet of which the back half could be built up as well.

I've got a Balsa USA 90 size eindecker which I built and have flown quite a lot but not for a few months as engine bearings went.
Got a saito 90 twin fourstroke up front. I didnt add any weight but as I recall rx battery was forward.
No vices whatsoever. Flies in a very nice and scale manner with the 90 fs and sounds really good.

I've been flying mine quite a bit recently. I didn't add any weight but I did fiberglass the inside of the cowl to strenghten it, move the battery up front, & moved the throttle servo upfront to prevent adding extra weight. I did cheat and put a steerable tailwheel in mine. I have a .91 OS four stroke in mine. It is a very slow and forgiving model and would make a most excellent trainer. Good luck !
