CK1...
That does indeed help. The experience you've reported supports the way I've been leaning. I've about made the decision to go with the Saito 182 Twin. Plenty of power while weighing in at about 30 oz less than the G38 when considering only the engine. I prefer to have extra power in case I need it in a pinch. I also found a Keleo pipe that will wrap around back into the cowl and extend out the bottom. Besides that, if it sounds as good as my Saito 82 I'll love it.

RE: Sig 1/4 scale Cub build?
I decided to add a bolt and nut like what's at the leading edge of the wing. I put it next to the joining tab near the trailing edge. It was easy and it will not be visible when the plane is together.

Nice work on your struts.
I have found JB Weld or Bondo works great for filling and shaping the ends of the struts. You will like how your Cub fly's.

smkrcflyer , Very nice work on the cub . The kit cowl works nicely when lined with light glass , .25oz would be good , any heavier is just added weight . Sand the inside thoroughly with 120 grit and lay in the glass with 30 min epoxy .

RE: Sig 1/4 scale Cub build?
This plane is looking great. I would like to throw in a question to the group if I may. I want to build the 1/4 scale because of the two piece wing setup, but I would like it to be a clipped wing version. Has anyone here done this, or can say how much to take out and where to achieve the clipped wing. Sorry I broke in , but thanks ahead. James

Sig offers a 1/4 Clipped Wing kit, neither version is a 2 piece wing. This is a MOD that you will have to do yourself as the directions and parts are not included in the kit.

The 1/4 scale full wing version is a 2 piece wing design , The plans for the full wing version used to show the clip wing modification on the plans , I'm not sure if this has changed or not but a call to Sig should get you the answer . The full wing version would not be difficult to shorten to the clip wing span and you would get the 2 piece wing design as well .

I built the Clip Wing kit and decided to make the wing a 3 piece design. Not difficult to do and the wing struts add the needed support fo the outboard panels.
By the way the struts look great, nice job!

Here is another question for you. Would it be possible to have both full and clip wing for the same plane and swap them without affecting the CG? That way you could change it depending on what type of flying you feel like doing that day.

If there were any difference in the C.G between the 2 wings it would be very minimal and probably not noticeable during flight or at least not enough to need to rebalance every time you changed wings.

RE: Sig 1/4 scale Cub build?
Sounds like a great idea to build both wing sets. You would have to do a color scheme that would work with a clipped wing and a full wing, I think. I really have not determined that I want to take this plane for my next project, ton of work you know, my attention span gets weak now and then. I once had the 1/3 scale Spacewalker in like 1989 and it met it's demise from a tip stall too slow, OUCH. I say this because I do have an understanding of the work involved and Sig doesn't help a builder a lot with their printed wood ect. I thank you guys for your inoputs though, Happy Building. I think I'm going to build a chip wing in cub yellow with black design on it like the chip wing. I just need to buy a clip wing kit or find a set of clip wing plans and tracings of the die cut parts.

The landing gear blocks can be mounted either way when using the robart gear. If you mount the blocks per the plan you have the advantage of the ability to use the original gear if ever needed .

RE: Sig 1/4 scale Cub build?
Hi all, my last project was the 89" Dynaflite Super Decathlon kit. Ordered the Sig 1/ 4 scale clipped wing cub today. Planning to use my well broke-in Magnum 180 4s on the fire wall. Need the the finished weight results you fellow Cubby fans. Also will mod to the L-19 Bird Dog scale appearance. Really looking forward to getting this soon to be winter project rolling.
Thx
