I bought this airplane at an estate sale along with a Coverite Black Baron Special. Both airplanes appear to have been built by an expert builder; a man who insisted on doing things correctly. However, I do not know if the pictured airplane is a scale model, a sport flier, a bashed kit, a scratch built model or simply a kit that I have never seen. I hoping someone here can give me a lead on its identity.

The plane appears to be built for two .25 or two .35 two strokes.

Not a scale airplane. Looks like a 4 star 40 that has been bashed.

post the span and length ooks like a plan built plane from either M.A.N or R.C.M just can not recall the name

doesn't look at all like a 4* maybe an old Balsa USA kit.

they left off the turtle deck...., look at the tail feathers. A nice bash in my opinion

pics include a 4* 40 fin/rudder and stab/elevators, the above is not a 4* modification.

That's a tough one. I was first leaning toward a kit-bashed Midwest Strikemaster, but that had a foam wing. I was also leaning toward a Midwest Twin Stik. That was built for .25 motors, but the tail is wrong.

I think it is the Airtronics Jetfire 40 bashed into a twin. Aerosphere has the plans now. Looks like a nice plane.

Well, if it is 4*, the only thing they kept was the tail section as the 4* is a LOW wing plan and this is not. Also no dihedral in the wing. No turtle deck.

Not even a major bashd 4* IMHO.

I stand correected Chemie, forgot about the wing layout. I was only looking at the tail feathers, the symmetrical wing and the lack of a turtle deck.

I lke the idea of a bashed Jetfire. Seems closer than anything else.

4* also doesn't have leading edge sheeting, cap strips, wing tips, the rudder extends past the stab, it has full strip ailerons........this list is long but he didn't believe me

Thanks for your comments and opinions, guys. I think the airplane is closer to the Gemini that it is to the Jetfire in final form, but I have to admit that the Jetfire is a serious candidate for the base kit.

When I bought the airplane I also got a bunch of other items, and some plans and partial plans were included. The only plan that come close to being the basis for this airplane is a partial plan that I found. The builder had made several copies of the wing/fuselage mating area, and I'm attaching a copy of that partial plan. I'm thinking that this is the kit that he bashed to come up with this airplane. Unfortunately, there were no more clues as to the name of the kit. Take a look and see if there is anything I missed.

I am going to post the dimensions of the airplane shortly, but that will be later. I don't have access to it at the moment.

That looks like a Strikemaster plan.

That is without a doubt, a portion of a Jetfire plan! I think we solved the mystery.

Here are a couple shots of a GM Precision Sunbird plan...Gary Moline (GM) produced the kits for Airtronics...Note the similarities of the plans...Obviously drawn by the same guy....So yes the plans are those of a Jetfire but is the plane a twin Jetfire? Looking forward to comments!

Johnny, both plans were definitely drawn by Gary Moline; there seems to be no doubt about that! Thanks for nailing that! I had my doubts about the airplane being a bashed Jetfire, but this kind of points to that theory being on target. I thought it was definitely a modified Gemini, but now I don't think so.

As for it being a modified Strikemaster, I think ther are too many differences. The nose isn't the right profile, the tail feathers (both vertical and horizontal) are quite different, and the wing profile is not close.

I still plan on providing the dimensions of the airplane. More later!

Not sure if GM actually drew the plans as he had others working for him who might have done this..After studying the pics you posted against the Jetfire, I do see some other differences. On your model, the rudder extends to the bottom of the fuse and the elevators are two piece where the Jetfire has a one piece elevator...This could have been another mod that the builder did to improve rudder response. I still think that it started out with a Jetfire kit because of the plans that were included....The thing that worries me is that its a twin and a taildragger!!! Thats gonna be FUN to take off!!..Fighting the torque of two motors excelerating with almost no direct propwash over the rudder....Good luck!!

Hey Johnny, you should post more pictures of the Sunbird plans so I can print them all off and tape them together! I would love to build on of those GM kits someday soon... Fleabay, here I come!

You called this one correctly! I have checked the partial print against Aerosphere's copy of the Jetfire 40 print. The partial is the same as the Jetfire 40. The airplane is therefore a bashed Jetfire 40. There is no longer any doubt.
