Default Sig & Tower

Looks like Tower has quit carrying Sig Kits and ARF's. Most of the Sig lineup has discontinued after it when I just searched kits and arfs.

I wonder if Sig is in financial trouble or just a fallin' out between the two. I do know their Customer Service has a bit to be desired, my LHS has had an order placed for 2 months now, and when he emailed them for an update they haven't responded. He said they are the only company he deals with that doesn't send him confirmation of an order???

Spat. Sig sells direct. One thing with tower, if they cant sell 5000 of something it is too low volume for them to care to mess with it.

Tower has become a little full of it self. Buying other kit makers, selling off their stock and closing them down. Kinda killing the competition you might say. Oh they will say no we are not, but it is fairly obvious thats what they are doing. Look at whats happening, in 95% of the cases, the other kit makers planes disappear and all that is left is the Tower Kit. Then you will get the Tower Supporter saying well the other kits were not selling. Yet you see a lot of people paying high prices on Ebay or RCU for the discontinued kit, which was prefered by most people. If Tower wants me to believe them, quit discontinuing almost all the kits that people still want. Tower has been trying to take control of the Airplane Model Market for years. They are starting to succeed. They cant control SIG, so they stop selling their planes. Just another indication of their intentions. You will see more in the future if I am not mistaken.

I called Sig directly and asked about this. This is nothing more than Tower not carrying Sig's products. Sig is still in business and is producing kits as always. They are currently waiting for shipments of their ARF form oversears though.

This same thing happened about 10 years ago. It was nothing more than corporate heads butting against each other. That last time it happened was because Sig's pricing didn't suit Tower. It's probably the same thing this time as well.

One of the most positive things I like abouit Sig is they are up front and
totally honest, they will give you correct information when you ask for it
and their packaging for shipping kits , ARF's and everything else is 1st class,
I have never had anyhting I bought directly from Sig arrive damaged and I
have been doing business with them for quite a few years now both as a
private buyer and in the past as a hobby shop owner. Now as for a Tower order
arriving without some kind of damage, especially kits and large packages, that does
leave a lot to be desired.

BTW those out there waiting on Sig's 60 & 120 sized "4-Stars" spoke with Mike
yesterday, he said they are out of a lot of 48" stock in both sheets & sticks so
they are waiting for the next shipment of balsa to arrive from Ecuador later this
month or early September.

In past conversations with SIG technical guys they shared that there is a (serious - my interpretation) shortage of balsa. Seems that the new wind technology uses a significant amount of balsa in the construction of the propeller cores. Energy generation market vs. hobby market. How many kits could be cut from a single propeller blade?

Hopin' that this is just a blip in the demand / production balance of balsa ...
