Default Which 1/5th P-51D Kit?

Time to start planning for a winter build project.

I've wanted to build a P-51D for as long as I have been flying (1980-88 and since May this year!) If I were to do this, would the Top Flite be the kit I need or are there others that I need to consider?

My goals aren't for a totally scaled out plane but maybe stand (way) off scale, a DLE-55 or MT-57, Keleo exhaust system and retracts (Century Jet maybe). I love the trim scheme on the Top Flite P-51D kit, the new blue nose Hangar 9 P-51 or maybe a Miss America theme.

What do you experts have to add?

Thanks!

I am building a 1/5 tf p51 and I'm not to please with it.It has great instructions but the kit is die cut which makes some of the thicker 1/4 balsa to be cut at an angle. The ribs would not fit on the spars without having to be cut out further. Some parts in the kit is laser cut so maybe they are working on getting rid of the die cut parts.I have not got to the fuse yet so I can't comment on that.

good luck with your choice and build.

Go with the TF - you WILL NOT be disappointed. It is probably th best flying 1/5 scale warbird available today. I may be a little partial since I have one and have been flying the heck out of it for 4 years now. Enjoy the build - it's a fun one!! Remember, we do this cuz it's fun!

I fitted it to a Zenoah G-45 turning a Xoar 20x10 prop. I feel that it is a great match and pulls this stang along like it's mated to a Merlin!
