lightweight covering alternatives

I am having a horrible time, covered my 1/12 DR1 with tissue sealed with nitrate dope and thought I could paint with rattle cans, mistake.
For starters I guess the two are not compatible but I was able to fog the paint on, then I realized when I masked, the paint came up with the tape. So I used templates to try and separate paint colors and realized the paint ran under the template. so the tissue is coming off
This is a Static Display only, so my question is there any covering that I can use that will not warp or crunch the delicate structure like mono coat will?

GO TO TOWER HOBBIES WEBSITE AND PUNCH UP COVERINGS. I use the coverlite covering on my small electrics and it does not crunch the wood when it shrinks. It's not very opaque though. It is also very light to boot!!! Try it, you'll like it!
Just my two cents,

You can still use the dope method, but you have to apply clear dope ontop of the maskings before you add the color, this way the color doesn't bleed under and onto the previously painted surface. Go light on application of paint, and after you apply your last coat, peel the masking before the paint dries, it's still soft and you can remove it before the paint "set's-up", so you won't have to worry about peeling the whole thing away.

Dalolyn,
You may find some good tips about covering with tissue and painting at this site dedicated to all free flight models:

If you contact Mr. George White there, I am sure he will help you a lot, since he builds scale models covered with tissue.
Regards!
