Default Carl Goldberg Protege kit engine size??

I am going to build a CG Protege kit and was wondering what engine all you CG Protege Flyers are using. I am thinking of a Saito 100, because I like the sound of the four strokes ( I have a saito 56 in my eagle 2 and have a saito 80 for my Tiger 60 I am building)

I converted my Protege to a tail dragger and went with an OS 61FX. Balanced perfectly with no added weight and very good power.

The Saito 100 should be a good fit, although, I'd be tempted to use it in the Tiger, the Saito 80 will pull the Tiger, but not very well.

Given those options, I would put the 80 in the Protege and the 100 in the Tiger 60

Hi Minnflyer,

I might be able to get my hands on a Saito 150. Would that be too big for the Protege if the protege is on floats?

In a word, yes. Even on floats, a 90ish 4-stroke is as big as I would go and even THAT is over powered

Yes, put the 80 on the Protege and the 100 on The Tiger.

A friend had a Protege with a OS.60FP, flew really well.

Good luck!

Jean Paul

I have a friend flying a protege with a Saito 115. It was a very nice match. Last season he did loads of very gracefull pattern with this combo. If you are going to buy the engine (and don't own the 100 yet) go with the Saito 115. He ran it on floats off of snow and water and regular wheels in the summer...
