Finally finished my Kadet Senior
Well, after a long time I have finally finished my Kadet Senior. I modified the wing by cutting the dihedral in half and added ailerons. I am using 1 servo per aileron. The wing is also a bolt on wing using 2 nylon screws on the back and a 1/4 inch dowel in the front. No more rubber bands . The current set up is using tricycle gear but can be changed to turn it into a taildragger, plywood mounts are already in place. The plane is covered in transparent orange and white Ultracoat. I hope you enjoy the pictures. Madien flight should be next month.

A Masterpiece! Absolutely gorgeous. Is that transparent any more difficult to put on than regular stuff? Any tricks to it? I've been thinking about using some but always chicken out!

The technique for applying transparent covering is no different then using opaque colors. The only trick is to watch where your overlaps are at. This is due to when two peices overlap it causes that area to be darker then the rest of the area. The best thing to do is when you cover the sides wrap the covering over the top longeron and trim it even with the inside edge. When you cover the top use a peice of wood the same thickness as the longeron and press it against the side of the plane. Trim the covering and wrap the excees down over the side of the longeron. This will keep all of the overlaps on the longerons where the darker area will not be as noticable.

That really is some great work!! Clear covering is for builders much better then myself!! Tim, what engine are you using?? I have a student pilot right now that has also been building that plane while he is learning to fly. He has asked me about the engine but I really don't know, I have seen them flown with a .46 and up to a .60 He has also made some mods so he has ailerons too.

Four strokes go great with this model. Mine has a Saito 72. I wouldn't put a screaming little 2 stoke on this plane. It would ruin the whole affect of floating Around at 1/3 throttle with a great sounding 4 stroke at just above idle.

Great looking Kadet. Here is one I built 18 years ago that I used to teach myself (and many others) to fly. I bought the OS .40 FP new at a flea market with my last $37. I have a soft spot for these birds and truely believe they are the best RC trainer that has ever taken to the skies. Good luck with yours and wish you many great flights.

All,
Thanks for all of the great comments. I really enjoy building from kits since you can make mods and custom design the color scheme.
Greybeard,
Currently I am using an OS 46, for the maidian. If I need more power for arobatcis then I will go to a 4 sroke. I had another one 3 years ago built per the plans and set up as a 3 channel. It was capable of doing loops and fly inverted using the OS 46. Unfortunatly it was lost when the front holder for the rubber bands broke off in mid flight. The wing floated down nice and slow but the fuse turned into a lawn dart. [:@] That is why I changed this one to use a bolt on wing.
P-40 Driver,
Thanks for the information. I was planning on doing that but was unsure of what percentage to use.

Hi Tgaulden,
Nice job on your Kadet Senior. I found that the Four Star 120 alum landing gear make the conversion to a tail dragger configuration a no-brainer It as if the gear was made for the Kadet.
Here is a picture of my Kadet.
Kadets Forever !

Carlos,
I like the way you covered the leading edges with the scallop design and how you used a different transparent color as a stripe on the wing. It really looks sharp.[sm=shades_smile.gif] Thanks for the info about the landing gear also.
