Go Evel go!

Glad you went with the 70's red, white, and blue paint scheme and not the new silver one.

I really like the red, white and blue patriotic scheme. My Super Sportster and Cessna 182 are also red, white and blue. I also fly an American Flag by my driveway.

I guess this is not a forum of free speach. I see that my comments in post #1501 have been edited. Almost half of it is not there.

Hi All,

I have noticed that recently access to the forum is often not available.

I wonder if this will post.

My understanding of this forum is that it is privately established and rules of course make sense such as no religion, sex and politics should be discussed.

However I understand that anyone in the whole world has access to reading it.
That by itself is a good reason to have rules for those who have registered and gained the privilege of posting and having discussions pertaining to radio control of our toys.

Zor

I bought the us 60 about 22the years ago and it sat there. I haven't built a kit for about 5 years so i pulled out the mojo 40 to get my balsa brain back in order. All i have to do is find rhe plans that i put somewhere safe. I got so excited about building I even got a us 1000 from ebay. I don't know what it is about the us but one just isn't enough. So asume. that qualifies me to be in the ultra sport brother hood?

I'm doing flaps and retracks on both the 60 and 1000. I need to finish the mojo so i can get started. It should be another week or so.

Hey Guys

I was given a older ARF version of the US 40 late last year. It was RTF including a older Futaba radio and some sort of "auto pilot"!

Anyhow I replaced the radio RX to Spektrum removed the fixed gear and converted to servoless retracts. The motor is a bone stock zero or darn near zero time 46 FX. All I did was remove the baffel in the muffler.

When I checked the balance the model was well reward of the 4" thats suggested. So I replaced the pushrods with custom CF ones and added a heavier alum spinner. Inverted, gear tucked I'm just about at 4.25"s now, so I'm close.

My question is with a full tank of fuel will I not be forward of the CG range? Now granted as I burn it off the CG will shift reward, but as it gets time to land the gear comes down, and that also shifts some weight forward.

Guess I'm just wondering your thoughts on this. I have flown a LOT of electric lately, so excuse my thinking that fuel will help my balance issues.

Thoughts?

Balance it with NO FUEL. Fuel does NOT count as nose weight!!!

Almost complete now. Still have a few minor details to finish, ailerons, servos, etc. I think it came out really cool. Thanks to Minnflyer for the covering schemeidea. It was actualy pretty easy to do, all straight lines. It was time consuming though, but worth it. There are some flaws, butin an80mph flyby, you'll never notice them. The US .60 will be easier to do since I've found where the problems are.

Powered by a Saito .56 with the option to drop a Saito.72 in if needed.

KaP2011,

Your 40 sized Ultrasport will fly fine with the Saito 56, but you would enjoy the 72 more. I'm still building a 60 with a Saito 91. I have a new 82 but it's going to be more fun with the bigger engine.

My US 60, when completed will also be powered by a .91, an OS that is currently residing in my 4 Star. Although I do have a Saito 1.00 that may work in the US 60. I'll have to think about that for awhile. No hurry though, the 60 is on the back burner for now, I have a Long EZ that I'm building for a friend that needs to be completed first.

KaP2011 I have the saito 100 and it has plenty of power to spare. I had it in a 9 pound texan swinging a 16x6 and it had awesome vertical performance. you would need to use a 13x9 do to the clearance on the us which would be fine for that engine. [8D]

I’ve been doing a search on this forum for plans or templates. A fellow flyer bought an ultra sport 40 last fall at a swap meet. I was able to fly it for him and trim it out. I was shocked at how fast it flew with a supertigre 45.

So then I was on a mission to find one. I do not have much time to build, so I bought one used on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251009873257&viewitem= &sspagename=ADME%3AB%3AWNA%3AMOTORS%3A1123

I hope to get it here soon. I have time to fix and repair. The one I flew had retracts. Does anyone have the planes and templates they can e-mail me? I have a few sets of the new electric retracts and I would like to take off the fixed gear and install retracts. I’m sure this can be done after the fact.

The US 40 comes with some extra covering so, I will be able to patch it back up after the change. Please PM me if you can help. As soon as it gets here, I will fix and repair anything needed and fly it with the fixed gear first. This one has a supertigre 40, but I have a supertigre 45, an elolution 45 alfa, and a thunder tiger 46 pro waiting on the shelf if the supertigre 40 is not fast enough.

Looks like you found a nice buy. You may not need any plans for the gear. Just place the retract units where the fixed gear blocks are now or go one rib bay out if you like a wider stance. Since that engine hasn't run in 11 years or so I would give it the overhaul treatment. A completed tear down, cook the main parts in a crock pot with antifreeze, new bearings, o-rings and piston ring if necessary and you should end up with an engine as good as new.

Good luck and have fun!

+1. I agree with Quickturn. Very nice plane, should not be too difficult to add retracts, especially if useing electric retracts.

I had been thinking of useing the 100 in a BHM P40 that I got last year and re-kitted, (crashed on my second takeoff) I'm begining to think of rebuilding it.

My US60 is almost read to cover. I have just a few more things to do but I just had to put it together to see how it looks.

Nice.... Is that a Tower .75? Should pull it around very quickly. Do you have a covering scheme in mind?
